Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Looks like one more soggy and chilly day here. The rumor is, spring might show up Friday & Saturday with temps going into the high 60's, I sure hope so. I did pick up a new trailer yesterday, 6'4" x 12' with ramp. We will use it in June to trail the bikes to Colorado for 5 days of riding in...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

A good weekend here, lots of outside work completed and I have the sore muscles to prove it. Worked for several hours on our steep gravel driveway getting it ready for rains so it will drain properly and let me tell you, it's working. Woke up to lightning, thunder and heavy rains--grabbed the...

Dennis--probably more truth to that joke than we realize. To be sure, there are some great kids on that team but the knuckledraggers seem to get all the attention and it just never ends. Too many folks in the spotlight just don't think that the rules apply to them. Hollyweird is a pretty good...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

26 sunny degrees this AM w/no wind. Wouldn't you know, I drove to the one place in Iowa yesterday that received 6" of snow  but when I arrived at home it was only rain, such luck :thumb:. Off to an RV/camping show today, even though we don't camp I still enjoy looking at the RV's...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Good Grief Charlie Brown--I drove about 60 miles north of here to work with a new college grad/teacher and they had at least 6" of new, wet snow on the ground! Thankfully, I took the 4 wheel drive truck and I did need the 4 wheel drive. I always arrive early and enjoy driving around small towns...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Good Morning from the Heartlands where it's getting darker by the moment and it's thundering!!! Good grief, spring just can't seem to get organized here as it's still cold and was very windy all night. There was 3" of snow in north west IA last night, could be a late spring for the farmers...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Another cool day here but at least the sun was out. Got the winter plowing bill taken care (I'll explain that to you suthern folks someday) and got a truck load of crushed asphalt ordered, that stuff is the best. No trains or photography today, hopefully before I take off tomorrow AM.

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Thanks Laz and Brutus for the nice words about the layout video. The layout was fun to build and once I retired I really enjoyed working full time on it. Once I got the longer more narrow room it all came together and made more sense. We learned so much from the build that we would like to do...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Dennis-- The game of choice today seems to be the Wii by Nintendo. Our youngest son, the bachelor, has one and let me tell you, it's great fun. He brought it home Thanksgiving, Christmas and was ordered to bring it to our oldest sons home for Easter  The good news is that it's very...

Jeffrey-- What was you ISO and shutter speed on that last shot? I think I might try something like that tonight once it's totally dark in the train room. Thanks.

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part IV

Dennis, No florescent lights nor flash nor available light, it's the doggone basement. What I'm using are work lights for fill in and it's driving me crazy, I need to bite the bullet and get some decent photo lights. I did try your idea of using a sheet last weekend in between the light and...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part IV

I'm thinking about taking another photo class next month so I thought I'd snap a few pics this afternoon and work on my lighting skills/problem. We are taking off to be with family this weekend so I wanted to leave something for you. These are two of my favorite diesels that I need to use...

Beautiful day here yesterday, FIRST RIDE OF THE SEASON, sure felt good :thumb:Lots of trips planned this summer, anxious to get on the road to live the dream--glad the bike gets 42+ mpg. I see the oil producers are complaining that our gas usage was done 1% last month, what a bunch of morons...

Thanks John, we are slowly trying to add new interest to our scenes, lots of fun. I'm really jealous of your geranium progress, sounds WONDERFUL. Our last frost date is May 15 but I typically have all the annuals out by April 25 and keep my fingers crossed for no frost. Last year we had an...

Good afternoon from the soggy Heartlands where it's been raining steadily for about two hours, thank goodness it's green rain and not white snow  It's about 36 degrees so I'm sure the police are happy as the wanna be Irish will stay in  Speaking of green, opening day of my...

That was a good conversation Chief, thanks :thumb: It's been a really good day here, spent some QUALITY time at the train store and Sharyl picked up lots of Artista figures as we want to get rid of the D56 giant people. Also making good cleaning progress on the layout, how can dust accumulate...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part IV

Jeffrey--that's a win win for both of you. The last 3 years my Dad was alive I spent great amounts of vacation time at the lake helping to take care of things on the house and the outside property, I don't regret it one bit. They lived there year round and simply couldn't keep up.
