    DCC and new modelers

After recently returning to the hobby in a small way after many years of being too busy it seems that DCC is now the standard operating system of the hobby.I was wondering if the financial burden of this new system is impacting on potential new recruits to the hobby. When i started with the...

    RDC rubber bands

The dollar store came up with some small hair elastics that do a decent job,the price was right $1 for 500.

If i ever get the space to build a large layout i'd probably give DCC a try just to make running multiple engines a little easier but for now its just one engine on a 5ft shelf.

    Pulse switch

I have an MRC Tech2 Railmaster 2400 DC controller and i've always wondered what that pulse switch was for as nothing seems to happen when i move the switch.

Replacing the rubber traction wheels with solid metal wheels made all the difference.

    Running DCC on older controller

Problem solved.replaced wheel with rubber traction aid with solid metal wheel and now the engine runs as it should . Thanks for all the info and if i ever get enough space to have a sizable layout instead of a 5ft shelfie i'll give that DCC a try.

Seems like my original post has branched off into the realm of trying to convert me to DCC,well that may happen in the future but for now i'm just trying to figure out how to make a single DCC equipped engine run on a 5ft shelf layout with a DC controller. The loco wont run 2ft without cutting...

    Proto 2000 series

I tried running mine with a 5yr old DC MRC power pack, the one i bought wouldnt run more than a foot or two without shutting down or turning off,did you do something to your P2K units after taking them out of the box or did they run fine with no adjustments mechanically or technically?

    Drawing a blank

Usually when i'm scratching my head for inspiration on a layout Google will set me on a path or give me the seed of an idea. You could try a site like this one Mike's Small Trackplans Page with the idea of putting a track plan on each door then joining the two.

So from what i gather from the responses the salesman should never have sold me this DCC unit when he knew i was going to be running it on a DC controller and him saying that it would run just like a normal engine only without the DCC capabilities and that i would have no control over the sound...

    RDC rubber bands

    First shelf layout

Took me a while to figure out a track plan due to no experience at working in such a small space but this is what i came up with.does it make sense?,i'm planning nothing more than a small station at the near end and a 2 bay engine shed on the far end, the far right track is supposed to represent...

    DC fundamentalist

Not sure buying 1 engine with factory installed DCC and sound would qualify as jumping in the deep end,the salesman told me that this type of unit will operate just fine on a DC controller as it will configure itself to my controller,i believe that was also confirmed during a related...

If i ever do decide to give DCC another try i will give the Bachman easy controller a try as its at least inexpensive Amazon.com: EZ Command DCC Control System: Toys & Games

If your layout is wired with a couple of blocks its as easy as flipping a switch.

After a brief frustrating trip into the world of DCC I've decided i'm going to stay with the DC for several reasons. Maybe every one else gets all this tech stuff but i dont. The novelty of realistic noises wears off quickly as you realize that your 80 ton engine is only 6" long and made of...

    Running DCC on older controller

That would be my bet but how do i increase the voltage output of my controller or decrease the DCC"s power demand. I have also heard of a DCC adapter that goes between the controller and the track (Quantum Controller add on) would that be worth a try? Thanks

    Running DCC on older controller

To give you some more info.i am running this engine on just 2 pieces of new flextrack and the joiners are done correctly,as for wiring its just 2 wires coming from the variable dc terminals on the back of the controller to the track, the controller is an MRC Tech2 Railmaster 2400 and is DC...
