    Dcc??

Remeber too, Tony, that once you move to DCC, it doesn't mean you cannot run your layout in "DC Mode". Just flip the switch, and use a different power source and controller. Your DCC locos will run quite happily on DC. There is a config option (in most DCC decoders) to set DC operation...

    Dcc??

Put the loco on the track, take the other loco off the track. Take that one off... put the next one on... Wanna put the other one back? Take the previous one off the track. Damn uncoupling those cars again... but I wanna run that loco.... take the other one off the track, put the next one on...

Where do I pick up passengers?

G'day all, :) I'm looking for some passengers to populate my railcars and passenger coaches. I know you can get seated LPBs, but they look like corpses sitting there propped up staring straight ahead when you put them in the passenger seats. Anyone know of where I can get good...

    Is this feasible in HO

taylor, Just some ideas on what I did when I had limited space, but when eventually moving, I'd have much more space. I tossed around the idea of a "module" as well, however I also wanted continuous running. However, thinking long about it, I decided that I'd do just a 4 * 8 HO layout, as...

    New DCC Systems

Agatheron, I run the NCE Powerhouse Pro 5 AMP DCC setup. Currently being supplied with only 4 AMP (from an 8 AMP power supply). Not wired up the other 4 AMPS as yet. I run HO. I have decoderised 6 of my locos so far and have had them all running around the layout at once, with headlights...

    What do you do?

Well I did computers for years, finishing up with an international software company throughout Asia/Pacific. Lots of sitting in jumbo jets. Got the "I don't wanna do this any more" syndrome, moved up the bush, (from inner Sydney) and opened an internet cafe and event ticketing business...

    Has anyone done it?

Has anyone plugged their DCC system into a computer, and controlled any aspect of their layout (including locos of course) from their computer? I'm gunna give it a try this weekend, if I get some time. :D :thumb:

    + and - decoder connections

Thanks David for that. Yep. On mine, it's the "reverse bit" in the decoder config. However I wanna run them configed and installed to the main defaults and wiring if I can. When you run a cuppla these, it's pretty arbitrary which is the front end anyway. :)

    DCC Compatible

Bob, If the motor is isolated from the frame, then it should be OK. Some locos (dunno bout Athearn) have the metal chassis as part of the connectivity from the track through to the motor. There is no way of breaking that connection to put a decoder in the way. Whether a decoder will fit...

    + and - decoder connections

I understand the standard decoder connections and what they're for. The red & black are quite easy to determine how they're connected. (left & right track pickup). However the grey and orange are the + and - connections of the motor. This will determine which direction the loco goes in...

    Decoder Squeal

Put a new decoder in my 4th loco today. (Lima motor). I've done one with this sorta motor before with no problems. Always check and recheck correct connections before powering it up. Plastic chassis and motor is isolated. Put it on the track, and without even selecting it, the headlight...

Do all DCC systems do this?

Problem solved. :thumb: :D The main cab controller has a "recall" function. recalls up to 6 locos that you've used previously. (can be set between 2 - 6 recalled locos). It also recalls the cab settings you had at the time. Just press "recall" and cycle through all the previous...

    update on son

Best wishes for your family and son, scooby. And tell him for me, all the way from Australia, that the kangaroos and koalas are just waiting for him to get better so he can come and see them all one day.

    Help... which DCC system?

Zedob, I just bough the NCE Pro with the Pro radio cab. I knew it would have too many buttons etc when all you wanna do is go forwards, backwards, and turn headlights on/off blow the whistle etc, but you've gotta have a comprehensive cab controller on the system somewhere. So I also...

Do all DCC systems do this?

That's exactly what it seems to do. I have a number of "double ended" deisel locos, and different couplers on each end for use with different couplered rolling stock. So even though the loco is going "forward", DCC needs to be set to "reverse" (turn the loco around to use the alternate...

    A Mind Of It's Own

Dave, I try to keep the track reasonably clean. The black gunk that comes off it sometimes!!  I decoderized another loco with all wheel pickup and it doesn't do what the other "dodgy pickup" one does. Runs nice and smooth and consistent. It's pretty easy to tell when...

Do all DCC systems do this?

Nope. Different addresses for each loco. The cab displays the newly selected loco number, but retains the displayed settings of the previously controlled loco. The speed/direction/function on/off of the newly selected loco doesn't change until a function/button etc is used on the cab. Then...

    Help... which DCC system?

Johnnyspeed, I chose the NCE Pro because of it's computer (serial) iface. I haven't tried it yet. Of course, you've then gotta consider what software................  Because it'll be the capabilities of the software that will limit/allow etc what you wanna do. Not...
