    It works!!

Have just now mucked around with the Decoder Pro bits of JMRI. Much better than doing one CV at a time on the cab controller!! :thumb: Have no real idea what the "create panel" bit does yet, but I'll work it out. :D I don't read manuals.

    does anyone ever meet up?

Bit hard for me to that, Ding. I'm 12,000 miles away on the other side of the World. :):):)

    It works!!

Have just plugged my NCE Pro System into the pooter and it all worked. First go. :D I'm using JMRI software, and have only set up a couple of throttles and saved the throttle layout so far. It's an old Win 98 bomb PC that I had laying around. I want to keep it at Win 98, as it had a...

Why The Big Cost Difference in Decoders

Need to remember, also, that the cost of these things is coming down quite rapidly, as more are sold, and technology improves, and they get a return on their intial development investment etc, and one manaufacture will reduce their price, followed by the others sooner...

    revisiting plaster cloth

Jim, The plaster mix has to be about the consitency of gravy. You do end up throwing a lot of it out as it sets, and you do need to stir it quite often, as the plaster will settle on the bottom. Also you need to put more than one layer of plastered paper towel on the base strutures to get...

    railroad video games

I have railroad Tycoon. Not to bad. And you can zoom in and around the running trains. Pick up load of freight and take them to where they're needed etc. Build your railways across rivers, and tunnels. Select apporpriate locos for logging, or fast passengers etc. Not too bad. :) TOOT!!

    hello

I've always got Georgia on my mind, It's that midnight train that goes there I'm more interested in. Devil of a place to go down to though. But it's the rainy nights there that can be a bit of a worry. But don't forget that when it's springtime down in Georgia it's winter time up in Maine...

    Clean That Track !!!!

I wholeheartedly agree, colin. :thumb: Especially older locos that are not "all wheel pickup". With older locos such as these, I've found DCC to be reasonably tolerant once the loco is on the move. It also makes it a lot easier to find those niggly spots. With DCC you can run with the...

Upgrade just throttle? Or upgrade whole system for not-that-much-more?

Well it does too. :thumb: from http://www.digitrax.com/prd_dt300_ir.php

Upgrade just throttle? Or upgrade whole system for not-that-much-more?

I don't think there are any controllers that have TWO rotary control knobs on them for DCC. I haven't seen any on my investigations, anyway. From what I've looked at, the rotary knob DCC controllers are usually at the "cheaper" end of the controllers available, and to switch loco its "select...

What did you use for the cables on the crane, Lester? I can't get mine to look anywhere near as straight as those!!

    DCC uses and suggestions

Jim, I assume you are aware how to set turnouts electrically? With a switch and "switch machine", which moves the turnout lever for you, to turn the turnout. With DCC, there are "stationary" decoders. These are special decoders that are for operating equipment. With DCC, each decoder is...

    DCC uses and suggestions

Jim, One of the big advantages of DCC is that you can have as many locos on the track as you like, and they are all controlled independantly. i.e. going in opposite directions, one stopped, the other going, & vice versa. Drive one up behind the other, then move the other one off etc etc...

    New at DCC

Lester, All the DCC decoders i have (albeit basic NCE ones) will happily sit on a DC track. They have a CV in then (yes/no) as to whether the loco will perform/run on a DC track. Set the CV to yes, and the loco happily works with DC. Set it to no, and it just sits, there and doesn't respond...

    Readback configuration variables?

Tell me about it, with readback. Specially if you've set Start/mid/max Voltage, Acceleration/Deceleration, or Kick Freq, & Kick Depth etc, and you may wanna speed up the acceleration, and you forgot what you put in there. :curse:

    Digitrax Infrared

I've got the NCE wireless (not IR) throttle, and I'm not sure of it yet. You only need the one receiver, of course. However, I've found that when it loses the plot, it really loses the plot, and it's like your internet connection when it plays up. Hang everything up, and start again to get...

    Proposed Layout Control : Digitrax

To add to that, Gary, I'd consider powering each district in the middle of each section with quality wiring, not at the insulated central points on your diagram. That way, you'll get minimal voltage loss along the track to the furtherest point of the district, as it won't be as far. That way...
