Where has DCC been all my life??

So how does it know the listener's position relative to the loco to generate a "doppler" effect?

    Decoder installation ?

This bit indicates to me (and I'm no expert) that you've wired it up correctly, if when you say you put it on the main, and it takes off (and the "main" is DCC and not DC). That tells me that the decoder has a speed step set in it from when it was used last. i.e. the loco that had the...

Where has DCC been all my life??

Doppler effect? Which decoder are you using? (or are you pulling my leg!!)

Big Nor'easter fixin' to kick our butts tonight...

aaaawww. That is so pretty. :) I can't imagine what it's like to be that cold that it snows that much. Specially where people actually live. Even though Australia has more snow fields that Switzerland and Austria put together, nobody actually lives there. It gets too cold...

Where has DCC been all my life??

I'm having a fabulous time with mine. Bought myself an NCE Powerhouse Pro Radio for Christmas. Be prepared for more train wrecks though. I get terribly greedy and run far to many trains at once. sign1 "Ooops... where's that one going......... AAARRGHHHHHH forgot about those...

    Constant Brightness Lighting

Thanks for that fred. Option 2 is really the only option I have. However I will look at the constant brightness circuitry, and see if I can slot the output funtions (1 & 2 : headlights) in after the rectifier diodes, and before the voltage adjust resistors/circuitry (that drops the voltage...

    Constant Brightness Lighting

One of my locos that I want to decoderize has 1.5 volt globe directional constant brightness lighting. (uses diodes/resistors on the internal circuit board) Lighting at each end of the loco is headlight, and red/white marker lights. Forward has white marker lights and headlight, with red...

    Has my decoder died?

Well that fixed that then didn't it **wipe hands emoticon** Wacked the loco on the programming track, got into JMRI, hauled up the default decoder definition, set it to a 3 digit long address, and click the "write all" button. Works just a bought one, now it does. Set it back to a 2...

    DCC Curiosity Questions

Andrew, I note on the JMRI website that their software (freeware) is able to be used on a Mac. http://jmri.sourceforge.net/download/

    Has my decoder died?

Keep things consistent, Gary. Use long addy on one? Use it on all. :)

    Has my decoder died?

Oh deeeerrrrrrrrr. :curse: hamr hamr hamr wall1 wall1 wall1 :curse: :curse: One really should read websites. From the JMRI website: I did do that (many times) i.e. check to ensure the roster entry was "long address", but I'm not on that new "test" version that is supposed to...

    Has my decoder died?

I tired that, Jerry. I spent hours on it. Set the "long address" using the NCE cab controller to 0072. Go to JMRI, which will read ALL the CVs for you and sets up a roster entry, which includes ALL CV values. You then select the "roster" entry when allocating a JMRI throttle. Nup. No go...

    Has my decoder died?

Worked that one out. Even though you can program the decoder from JMRI with a "long address", there must be a problem in the software when addressing a 2 digit long address frmo the throttles. I had set the long address (and activated "long address") as 72. (road number B72). JMRI will not...

    Best brand decoders

Chirs, To me, decoders are much like the array of tin fruit you get on the supermarket shelf. It all comes in a tin, and has fruit inside. Some have fancy labels, some have syrup, some have two fruits, some are imported & others aren't. Some are on special one week and not the other. Some...

    ZTC Controls Computer Interface

I use JMRI software on my NCE Powerhouse Pro Radio system. It is freeware from click here It supports around 15 or so Command Station makes and models, and what seems like hundreds of decoder makes & models, however, ZTC Controls is not listed on it's configuration "options" as one of the...

    Because of a wreck...

Right..... Now I've set the camera up properly this time. :thumb: **looks thru viewfinder...., steadies tripod, adjusts zoom and focus** Ah.... perfect. Just gotta wait now :D **yawn** Phew it's hot today. Might just go over to that tree and sit in the shade while I wait for the...

    Has my decoder died?

Just to add to this, Gary, one of these "brain dead" locos, when I was using it the other night would not respond when using a computer throttle (JMRI software), yet it would from the cab controller. No probs with other locos responding from the computer, but this one just wouldn't. Yet it...

    Gadget Wish List

Will, What you ask, can be done. Using DCC and a computer. You know the ones with "touch screens"?. You'd need to get someone to program it, but just have your pic on the screen, touch what you need, and it will generate the DCC commands to turn the lights on/off or whatever you want...
