    Programming a Locomotive

There are two CVs you'll need to set. One for extended addressing, and the other for the actual address. I don't recall the CV numbers. What brand of DCC command station and cab controller are you using? I use NCE and it has a computer interface, where you can plug your computer into it...

The Great Wahl Clipper Oil Experiment!

I'm impressed. :thumb: :thumb: :D I've tried everything to keep that track clean. Even thought about the good old 240 volt car repair shop angle grinder. Give it two hours of running and had to clean the wheels and track again..... and again........ and again......... and again....... ad...

    NCE DCC radio control

Well, I've now got my NCE Pro Cab radio controller back from repair. It works fine now. However, I was about to send it back AGAIN for the problem of it not responding, the LCD display not updating, and appearing not to reposnd, and having to push the buttons a number of times. However, it...

    Instant Full Brightness headlights?

AN Modeller, I note your Australian National G Class?? is it? Powerline? Most of the later Australian models (Powerline, Austrains etc) have probably the best constant brightness lighting you'll get when using DC. That's why most use 1.5V DC globes, not 12V DC globes. They have a...

    Weathering Question

If you wanna try weathering, practice on an old bit of junk first, rather than your prized new acquisition. There is a technique called "dry brushing", where you take the paint or powder (chalk or dust), wet the brush with your paint, or dampened powder, dry it off the brush with a paper towel...

Acrylic paint for ties OK ?

Tamiya acrylic stuff? Don't waste your money. Get a goot jar sized elcheapo artist (student quality) acrylic paint from your local arts store. $5 a cup sized tub. I use red oxide, burnt umber etc type colours with the following result for track weathering. No probs with ballasting when...

    NCE DCC radio control

It's been a while, but a response to my own post above. I finally got around to checking this radio cab out properly. I've been using it as tethered only since then. Got myself some fresh batteries, tested them to make sure they were OK, and it still played up. Switching itself off all...

    Ampage Use ?

I've got a twin mainline, reasonably lengthy (round a two car garage), and I can really only cope with 4 trains at once. (two on each mainline) (continually adjusting each to ensure they don't catchup/slow down). I've tried more, but it's just not worth the constant vigilance. I've tried...

    It works!!

It's written for quite a lot of DCC systems. The main ones anyway. (Bout 10 of them on the list). When you install it, you tell it what sort of DCC system you use. It would have just about every different brand and model of decoders it supports as well. Just tell it what decoder you have...

    It works!!

Drew, You can run both. It's not an either/or situation with your pooter. With NCE, it plugs from your serial port on your pooter, into a "serial" plug on the command station. Your cab controllers etc work on the cab bus at the same time. There is no reason why a PDA would not work...

    I'm just brilliant!!

.......... or pretty useless and decoder installs. One or the other!!:) Trying to cram a decoder into a loco, soldered it in, put my heatshrink tubing on the soldered joins, fiddled, shoved, push, bent, big gloppy fingers in tiny spaces, and **SNAP** :curse: :curse: :curse: The...

    NCE DCC radio control

I bought myself one for Christmas. First foray into DCC. To be honest, I'm not that impressed with the the radio cab. Once it loses the plot, it really loses the plot. It won't even respond if you plug it back into the cab bus. Gotta turn the whole thing off at the power point to get it...

    Decoder installation ?

Ahhhh... I'm not familiar with these Rivarrosi locos. What, and where was the "piece of metal shaped like a fork"? At this point, I would be removing the decoder from the loco, and hook it up directly to the track. (no motor), and a globe to the headlight function (blue & white wires for the...

    Decoder installation ?

Does the loco have a metal chassis? You will need to check if the chassis is "live", and supplying power direct to the motor. But as you say you put it in the DCC track (with decoder installed) and away it goes, the DCC track is AC power. Not DC, as the motor requires. Do you have a...
