one thing you should do to minimize brush strokes and thick layers is thin the pain with water, and use a soft brush. it can be synthetic or real hair, just as long as its soft. now thinning the paint will most likely make it less opaque so the original lettering and paintjob will stick through...

i use micro trains 2004 couplers on my spectrum 2-8-0 pulling atlas cars with accumates and it works fine. exept when i try to couple the MT and AM couplers together. when i drive the train into a car to hook them together, the AM coupler seems to just knock the MT coupler off to the wrong side...

well i was thinking those could be used for temporarily storing cars when i arrange them into trains, it would help me reorder them. but im not exactly sure how a yard works. maybe i should change it to store the caboose and all the other things you mentioned?

well i just threw together some measurements, and the layout will be 3' 11" off the floor. which makes it at about chest level for me (im 5' 8") and if i get on top of my bed it will be up to my waist which will give me plenty of reach to uncouple or clear derailments.

bitmaps actually work here too. im not sure about the gallery though. i use photobucket. i guess i do it the really complicated way. i use atlas software to make the plans and just take screenshots of em and edit out all the menus and stuff in photoshop. if the plan is too big to fit on screen...
