Poll: Do you own an atlas depot?

I have one...but now that I know it might be a common thing on most peoples layouts I may go for something else.....doubt it...but maybe. Here is a pic of my station... still havent finished it up though. The price is right for this item and it goes together easy. :thumb:

    P2K Pere Marquette E7

I'm just curious if this is painted this way to be prototypical. I have ordered a P2K BL-2 that has a diffent shade of blue (lighter) then I have seen on higher numbered BL-2's of the same manufacture. I also found a pic of another P2K Pere Marquette C&O E7 that had a higher road number and...

How to choose the correct crossing degree?

I am thinking I will actually have to use a #4 turnout and 12.5 degree crossings if I am thinking correctly. An Atlas #4 (4.5 to be technical) turnout is 12 degrees, 50 minutes or 12.83 degrees correct or no? The closest crossing available is an Atlas 12.5 degree which should make for a smooth...

How to choose the correct crossing degree?

On my new layout I basically have 2 main lines that are independently powered. I want to use a #6 Atlas code 83 turnout (green cicle in pic) on the outside main line and run into a crossing ( Red cicle in pic) on the second inside main line allowing me to reach various facilities located inside...

Finally, I can look forward to shopping at walMart...

I looked all over my local "Super" Wal-Mart and they didn't have any. Then again for someplace so "Super" they really don't have much of anything. Oh well. :(

Thank you Steamer.....Seriously... I'm not trying to bragg or throw anything in ones face because thats not my style, but this is only just a very, very, very small portion of what I have ordered. I placed an order at internet trains.com for $1750.XX just yesterday and an $8XX.XX order with...

Recommendations on: Turnouts, switch motors, etc.

Hey...you the one I bought these pieces of crap from!! Just kidding :D I think I may do the same and sell mine on ebay & check into these "Tortoises". They are manufactured by circuitron correct? I certainly dont want to be under my layout for hours. Im not about trying to do all that. I want...

    Using brass rails

I started my first layout using my grandfathers old AHM brass track. When I recieved it the stuff was seriously brown. I tried a dremel to clean them. It took a long time to do a few pieces but they looked great (like gold). I decided that it would take me months to clean all the sections I had...

Recommendations on: Turnouts, switch motors, etc.

I had just planned on using a fused 9V transformer to a fused distributon panel to the toggle switches and then to the turnouts. I thought I remembered reading that the 9V power eases the quick snapping action of the switch motor. I am not an electronics guru and I am still a noob to this...

    Requesting Ideas

IMO it doesent look like a bad start if you are trying to show exposed wood under the paint. I would definately fade the Lettering and use a small metal bristle brush to burnish the wood (brown paint) to give it more of a peeling paint look. You would want to go horizontal with the burnishing...

I think Accurail is the way to go. I to will be adding Kadee wheel sets and couplers. I think it will make for a superb cost effective fleet for someone like you or myself who sold off their previous rolling stock and want to start over. I like Branchlines offerings as well. I ordered quit a few...

    New Memeber

Hey Jorge hows it goin? Welcome to The Gauge. This place is great. Lots of gurus here that can tell you just about anything you want to know. It takes a while sometimes but the pros will chime in. I'll be watching this thread myself as I am curious how some of the conversions are done as well...

    Rolling stock

Here are some pics of the goodies that have arrived over the weekend. I'm still waiting on a large order I placed about a week and a half ago that hasent showed up yet. Don't see to many of these anymore...

Good to know in case I screw up on of the box cars. I may try the FA again later but I'll have to head over to champs website and pick up some more heralds. The heralds on the F unit now are from a Walthers set and a little bigger than they should be anyhow. By the way... I made every single...
