Thanks Andrew, a good reminder to start small. I will do some experimenting with some scrap material before I go further. I believe I have read of others thinning their latex paint as their base coat, then onto the WS ground foam etc. Thanks for the advice. Charles

Sorry I wasn't clear in my description of what I have done. The risers/inclines do not have a solid surface so I put one layer of WS plaster cloth on top of them. Wet, it looked smooth but dried it isn't. Sanding didn't work for me. My fix will be to use spackle over it to make it smooth and...

No help out there? Well I'm further along and will use a "Spackle" to smooth the Plaster Cloth irregularities. Trial and error I guess but that seems reasonable to me.
