Nahhh, he just hit the catnip too hard! Chris, that second pic could be an ad for the C&O! Amen, Matthryo Steve

    First Tractor

I agree with Shaygetz. The colors need to be true John Deere green and yellow(brighter!). I would also paint the steering wheel all yellow. Some people also paint the flywheel yellow, but I don't know if they came that way originally. We just had the California Antique Farm Equipment Show here...

Hey Ima, Congrats, on deciding to build a Koi pond. A bit of advise from someone with alot of experience. Learn all you can about ponds,Koi,biological filters, pumps, etc. before you buy anything. I did some research before building our first pond but alot of what I learned unfortunately came at...

    Prototype Climax colors?

Thanks Tyson, That's what I love about this place, someone can always help you and it don't matter what scale(s) you have. This helps alot, it gives me some ideas to think about. I was thinking of going with black undercarriage and trucks with a stained deck and grey or moss green for the rest...

    OVT&L's Ballast Car

Hey Casey, I agree, very nice indeed! Those are just the kind of rolling stock I want to build for my garden railroad. Something the guys in the carshops would build (on a small shortlines' budget) to work for what they needed. How did you paint the ballast car? I like the color and weathering...

    First 0n30 scratchbuild

Hi Tyson, Sorry, I don't always proofread my posts before I send them. I meant to put that in the post. They carried the fuel inside the cab in all accounts I have read. I agree, they couldn't go far on one load. They must of had fuel sheds of some sort along the way or only ran short...

For those who might miss me...lol

That's why I built a G gauge garden layout!:D When it's too nice inside I have trains outside to play with. Enjoy the summer and definitely pop in now and then to say hi. Steve

    Prototype Climax colors?

Thanks Ron, I know that site well (posted the link a few times on here). I have spent alot of time on it and found just what you did. The "Bug" seems to be the only one they know the color of. Well, I think since I am freelancing my railroad I might as well make up my own color. Steve

    First 0n30 scratchbuild

Hi All, I think Pete is refering to the Class B and C Climaxes. I don't beleive there were any coal burning Climaxes. Not factory built anyway, many of them were altered by the owners though so there could have been. here is a great link with the most complete history and info on Climax...

    Rock Creek Timber Shay

Nice work PJ! Have you posted pics on mylargescale forums of this beauty? Thought I saw 'em there. Please do post more pics of your work and layout. I am in the early stages of detailing my outdoor G layout based around late 1800's. Steam trains and cowboys are the basis. Would love to see some...

People at work on the Railways

Nice shots guys! Pierce, I have a spike puller and used it once to pull a spike from a tie I was putting in my yard. I wouldn't like to be on the business end of it all day, it is #%@*^! heavy. My hat is off to the men and women who daily keep the railroads running. Steve

    Prototype Climax colors?

No problem Paul, I hope you went back to my original post on your thread and saw the links. I thought you would like them! Jon, All the pics I've seen are grey too. Hmmm, maybe its a conspiracy! Well, I think I will keep searching for original colors that the Climax came from the...

    Prototype Climax colors?

Hi Gang, I am building a G gauge kit for a class A Climax (similiar to Shamus' new one) and am ready to paint some parts. I don't know what colors were used originally on the prototypes and wondered if anyone here might know? I asked this on Shamus' thread about his new Climax but got no...

    Basic Question about water

Hi Dwayne, Welcome to the Gauge. I have used Woodland Scenics EZ Water(the crystals you melt type) before so I will comment on that. I painted the bottom of the area first and would glue in any details around the edges before the water. The grasses I pushed into the water before it set up. As...

    First 0n30 scratchbuild

Hi Paul, The Climax looks great. I look forward to seeing more as you build it. I am mostly into the larger scales (O, S and G Gauge operating layouts). I am building a operating wood kit for a late Class A Climax (practicaling kitbashing as the instructions really @*#!). Do you know what...

    Hiawatha Won't Run

Hi Robert, I suggest you have an authorized service person look at it. Early MTH engines were made to be hard for the average person to work on. MTH wanted all repairs to be sent back to the factory so they knew what was going wrong on what engines. They have realised that was not the brightest...

    1st attemp at posting pics

Hi All, Thanks for the words. Now a little background. I was in a hurry to get a pic and try to post it so I just snapped what was close. The picture is a closeup of the mountain in my train/computer room. The little green thing in the right corner is a jeep and just out of sight in the top of...

    1st attemp at posting pics

Hi gang, I borrowed my Dads digital camera and have been figuring it out. Thought I would try posting a pic. This is the first (and only) pic taken so far, if it works I'll take more. The picture shows some of the rock castings I always brag about.

    Track Cleaning

Welcome to the Gauge, Steamed. What gauge are you working with? If it is N or HO, I have used denatured alcohol and bright boys with success. If it is another scale, I can help there too. Steve

    General Terminology Question

Hi Jean, I think the gang has done pretty good on answering the other questions, except #1 gauge is associated with G gauge now. So I'll just chime in on the last question. Here are two websites to check out, the first one is all Climax loco pics and info...
