    Track-laying questions

for track to flex, at least one of the rails needs to slide. Ensure the slider is on the inside of the curve and all will be well. This method will secure the sliding rail into the clips of the other piece of track and maintain proper gauge. I had a problem with one point on my layout where...

    Peco Turnout machines

I cut a hole in the deck a bit (a very little bit) larger than the switch, mount it directly to the points and cover the sides with masking tape. Scenic over it and you'll never know they're there. It is also easy enough to remove them and replace the switch if necessary.

Saw an odd one down in southern Ca. a few weeks ago. BNSF logo on the SF warbonnet (red/silver.) I had never seen that before.

    unansweredable questions

My wife and I have been together 8 years. She quilts, I model. We set up a "Hobby Room" for both of us. We each have our areas in the room and this allows us to participate in each other's hobby while working on our own.

    Let's Talk SOLDERING

One thing to add. When soldering, heat your work, not your solder. Heating the solder will result in the dull, brittle connections refered to by Vic. Never touch the solder to your gun or iron tip unless you are tinning.

    Honest opinions please!

I see only a color photo so I cannot compare. It looks like a real train to me. I like the composition of the photo as well. it looks like you were trying to find the camera and just barely got it in time to catch the train as it passed.

Layout wiring - Sanity check please

Bill, if you look closely at Shamus' diagram you will se that he left out one set of insulators allowing power to the "top" portion of the loop, without a second set of feeders. Gary, the peco electro-frogs are power diverting but you still need to gap at least one rail on the down track...

    Favorite loco(s) to run

my N-scale Atlas SD-60. It looks massive, even in N-scale, creeps like a cat and pulls like a mule. (14 cars without being affected by the grades on the layout.) UP, of course. My Kato C&NW SD-40 is a close second. it is a bit smoother but lacks the presence of the SD-60.

    What do you like best

I agree with Chessie, I like to watch the trains run while I work on other aspects of the layout or perform switching operations. I do however like to break up the loop so it is not obviously a circle.

    St. Louis Terminal layout plan

That's a great plan, well compressed and offering an incredible amount of modeling, switching and running operations. I hope you do undertake that so I can see the finished product. One area that may give you trouble is the corner. At some point you will need to access it and it looks to be...

IMPORTANT :-> My site... What's wrong?!

Great site great car. Good luck on the layout and since the 106 and 206 are not available here in the states, I would be happy to take your's off of your hands. Was wondering if you are a FIM Rally fan and what you think of the disqualification of the 206's last time out. (You write...

    Happy Fathers Day (UK)

What better way to spend the day than rolling around on the floor with a couple of great kids, a few blocks and maybe a toy train or two? Those of you who have experienced it know what I'm talking about and for those who have yet to become a parent, there is nothing comparable to the blessed...
