several trestle bridges are available, but for modern style bridges I think you'll have to scratch build it. I had to build my own 13.25" span out of styrofoam and cardstock.
for about $50, you can get a soldering iron with adjustable output, stand and even a few different tips. Try looking for "weller" or "unger" soldering irons on google. Here is one I found for $42. (scroll down to "WLC100")

I put a folded dogbone layout into a 33" X 62" layout. (some pictures and a plan can be found here ) It requires a bit of finagling but can be done.
I will add at this point that I am restricted in the length and height of the cars I can run.
I think you have a marked improvement, with the working interchange and hidden staging. I would suggest that instead of a removeable scenery piece over your long tunnel, you make the fascia removeable or with openings to watch/access the train through that section.
