Oiling rods & drivers on brass steamers

Alas, the difference in models run:mrgreen:...most of my locs are 30+ years old, from a time when the drive rods actually did carry a load. Rivarossis and old brass especially are known for this. The Teflon idea sounds great but I'm not interested in coloring my rods either...my tastes run a...

Oiling rods & drivers on brass steamers

I use a "micro drop", as you've said. When they start dropping rods and crankpins, you usually don't have to look far to see why. A little---very little---bit of oil goes a long way.:thumb:

    Weekly Photo Fun 10-3

I know they're mostly older Tyco and Bachmann, but there are classics in there that are hard to resist---amazing what you can find in a barn hayloft. The Tyco auto rack with the hard to find Camaro load, a Black & Decker boxcar and a few others like that have made it worth the postage. While I...

    Need Athearn re-motor advice please

Sounds more like a problem with his system, the newer Athearn motors with the brass flywheels should work fine. We had a Digitrax system at the club where I regularly ran my Athearns with no ill effect on operations. It wasn't unusual for there to be 10-12 trains going, some with multiple...

When Is It Enough...OR Too Much?

If you're sizing up your bathroom for a CTC board, it's too much. If the vendors at the train show stand at attention when you walk in, it's too much. If your beloved bride can only wear a few well placed decals and some Labelle #108 to get your attention, it's way too much. If you get...

Fasinating how that worked out. I saw a picture of one sometime back that a farmer had purchased from the railroad after it had wrecked. He toted it to the end of his fields, hooked up an air compressor to it and now uses it as grain storgae during harvest. He just fires up the compressor and...

    making a dummy

Your best dummies are converted powered units. The weight and metal axles make for a unit not easily prone to derailments. As was said before, all you need to do is take out all the idlers, leaving only the geared axles. Another plus is that you can have directional lighting simply by...
