    Her Majesty Submarine P44 United

Moonwoka, never waste your time belittling your own work....there are always plenty of critics willing to do that for you. Very credible rework of an old kit (glad I'm not the only one in this sector of the dark side). I think Maly has published at least three versions of the Orp Dzik....which...

    Airwolf Beta builders wanted

Looking at Bill's pic, it looks as if he also has a "ledge" at the join of assemblies 2 and 3, rather than a flush join of the external surfaces. I'm guessing he may have split the fit mismatch between the two sides, rather than I did by making the first join with the skins of the two...

    Airwolf Beta builders wanted

A bit more progress. The good side is illustrated. I also encountered a bit of a fit problem with subassembly 3 that points to a fit problem with parts 6-6a. In my case, the height of part 6a is not the problem....instead, the parts are not wide enough to properly mate with subassembly 2...

    Airwolf Beta builders wanted

I might mention that I installed former 1a with superglue (something I normally wouldn't do, since it tends to bleed through a single layer of cardstock....as is evident by discoloration on portions of the skin) in interest of minimizing build time at the possible sacrifice of appearance of the...

    Airwolf Beta builders wanted

And here is what I have completed so far. I have a feeling that anyone who didn't put on the windscreen before blocking off access by adding former 1b will have some difficulty. Without the abiliity to support the back of the gluing tabs, I think it will be very difficult to get a good fit. I...

    Airwolf Beta builders wanted

NOW you tell me....I'm just at the point of struggling though trying to fit together the last of the nose seams. All things considered, I think it would be a lot easier just to separate the nose into three totally separate segments. I'm spending most of my time fighting piece 1 trying to keep...

    New Baby F-89 Scorpion Release

Nobi, would you mind if John sent me his Mig-17 modification files for use in what looks like might become my holiday project?

    Digital Navy V-108

Kevin, even without coloring the edges, it came out pretty good. When you tackle the larger model, just remember it builds one part at a time, and it has no subassembly any more difficult to construct that what you've already done (in other words, eat the elephant one bite at a time, and just...

    New Baby F-89 Scorpion Release

Nobi, finally figured out how to get orders made through your site....for some reason, it is not at all friendly with Ebay's browser. Foxfire seems to work fine. The new baby is a real winner....there are already three people at work that want me to make one for them. However, your photo has...

    DN's Admirable

Chris, not much to add to the previous advice. I use a large embossing stylus for this type of part shaping...one with a ball tip at least 1/8 inch diameter. You can get this tool at leather-working shops, like Tandy, or the scrapbooking section of crafts shops such as Michaels, Robers, Ben...

The guns from the Wilhelmshaven models really look good after assembly, but are a bit difficult to hold onto. That does it for another week.

The model came out well enough I'm strongly considering doing a redraw of the kit and doing a second build. Might make an interesting contrast.

Only progress on the Z10 this week. I was hoping to have it done today, but figured the light was fading faster than the number of white spots on the model. That is the problem with fiddly bits....they take a factor of four longer to build than the structure they fit onto.

PTF and other brown Water Naval types

I don't think you want to go any smaller than 1:100. I would imagine the railroaders would appreciate 1:87. I think 1:50 would be just great....that way, you could even do an interior of the cabin.....wish, wish.

This kitbashing thing is working out. For once I take no pity on those (including myself) with dialup connections and directly loading a couple of pictures. This kitbashing thing is working out....the 20 mm from the Wilhelmshaven digital kits (can't remember if it is from the Panther or the...

Keeping parts organized isn't that big a thing....I have a divided portfolio to keep the parts pages (and pieces thereof) separated and only work on one model at a time. Though there are some positive things to say about mix-and-match (some people call it kitbashing). The Z10 has a compromise...

Jim, so far the fit problems I've encountered have been fairly minor, and nothing that a few minutes in Photoshop can't cure. As always, the devil lies in the details (more specifically, the lack thereof). 2D depictions that look ok in 400 scale start to look pretty cheesy in 250, and omitted...

One more shot....this time of the armory. I like the way these guns came out...seems a shame to put them inside a turret.

Well, that's it for this post. Things will be a bit slower from here on out, since I'm getting down to the fiddly bits on all three kits. As a teaser, I started an enlargement of the Admiral Hipper. It is impressive enough just to go immediately to a redraw, so is a couple of months away at...
