    JSC 1:400 HMS Dreadnought

Ski, the JSC kits are kinda like popcorn....once you start, you can't do just one. I've found once you manage to get past their cockamamie frameworks (which I do by totally redesigning to eggcrate structure), it's not too very hard to figure out the rest....but do a lot of dryfitting first.

    Pirate Ship

Get them hooked while they're young....helps keep them away from the bad stuff when they get older. A destroyer? Why not...gotta be a few simple ones out there somewhere, and one never learns from something that isn't a challenge. Maybe on www.freepapertoys.com ?

    BTTF Train Time Machine

Claudio, you have outdone yourself. Terrific model. I hope you revisit the Alice in Wonderland theme (hint, hint).

    JSC 1:400 Z10 Hans Lody.

And I bet I know which superstructure part you had some problems with...but it did redraw fairly simply. The kit enlarges fairly nicely with that one exception...I built it at 1:250.

    Looking for JSC 1:400 suggestions

I've enlarged (1:250) and built the USS Helena, Z-32, and USS-Blue without anything severe in the way of fit problems. When I made the enlargements, though, I scrapped their method of framing and drew my own eggcrate framework.

New Titanic from Sir Currell - Beta Report

An interesting approach to a base platform for the framework....almost a hybrid of traditional egg-crate and JSC frameing methods. Impatiently waiting for this release.

    New Orlik release

Just a thought on the parts fit issue....in the digital world, one pixel is not always one pixel. Depending on how the kit gets processed, the hardware (or maybe even software that doesn't play well together) could be introducing tolerance biases into the finished product. I encountered that...

    USS Tarawa LHA1 1/200

Barry, have you considered using blocks of florist's foam to fill the void spaces? I'm thinking of trying it on my next build.

    For smokers only

Something a little less harsh on the health is baking soda. Sprinkle a little on the CYA and it sets immediately. Has the advantage that it "foams up" a bit and fills gaps, but is a bit difficult to sand since it sets up rock hard.

    Opinions about kits

I see nothing so far in the discussion that would be subject-dependent. Armor, airplanes, ships, architecture, take your pick....the overall "ranking" of publisher quality comes out about the same, and for the same reasons. Some generalizations can be made about the publishing houses regarding...

    Opinions about kits

My own experience with papermodelstore has been quite positive. On two orders, delivery has been within a week....and prices were very reasonable (including, perhaps especially, handling/shipping). And each order has been accompanied by a nice bonus kit. Granted the bonuses have been Maly...

    Opinions about kits

A few comments on this topic, which is somewhat dear to my heart. Attemts to evaluate specific models, or more generally, publishing houses, is quite subjective. When I started the "first impressions" forum, I attempted to introduce some guidelines to make the process more objective. I didn't...

    Maly Modelarz USS Essex 1:300

Leszek, the anti-aircraft guns could stand by themselves as mini-models. Simply beautiful. About your comments regarding the hull....do you think there are just not enough formers in the kit as designed? Sounds as if this problem will be made worse by enlarging the kit. Do you think filling...
