    Turntable and Reverse Loop

Shaun; I'll keep my Tony's reverser handy and will know the answer as soon as I can afford the turntable. :) I also appreciate Steamer fans comment about where to wire in the reverser, if needed. :) I'd better get cranked up getting my benchwork completed or all this conversation...

    Turntable and Reverse Loop

Great, thanks Fred. Guess I can set the module aside for another day :) Or better yet I ought to sell it so I can begin to collect my funds to buy that Walthers turntable. $300 ain't chicken feed  Bob

    Turntable and Reverse Loop

I am about ready to get started building my new layout and I mentioned to a fellow modeler here that I was not going to have any reverse loops in this layout ( I model HO and will be using Digitrax Super Chief DCC). Later we were talking about the fact I intend to use a turntable, I hope to...

    Starting Over Decisions

Thanks Greg; As I look at the prices on the Sievers stuff I am more inclined to do as you suggest. We have a Home Depot and a wonderful place called Menards where the prices and service are much better. I think I'll do exactly as you say regarding the benchwork and legs. I was just doing some...

    Starting Over Decisions

Benchwork Thanks sammyd. I am specifically interested in the benchwork at this time. Once I get the frames and legs in place my plan is to cover them with first oxboard (cheaper than plywood and just as sturdy) and then either 1 or 2" insulation. I plan to use cork and atlas flex track and I'm...

    Starting Over Decisions

Fired Up Again I spent this afternoon at The Great American Train Show being held here in Council Bluffs this weekend and I guess it has gotten me fired up enough to get started doing something about getting a layout up and running, finally :) We'll see how long it lasts  I...

    January Photo Contest: Prototype

Woodie; That's not the one, but don't look anymore. As I recall it was way before the Gauge was reorganized and I no longer remember what section or thread we were using at the time. I appreciate you taking the time to look though. Cheers. Oh, by the way, the temperature here this morning...

    January Photo Contest: Prototype

Woodie; I thought you might use a post you made several years ago of a bridge and track that was all out of alignment...maybe near the border between NSW and Vic. I don't recall all the details, but it was a striking picture, none the less. Cheers Bob

I would just like to know that if I model the steam era, would you consider the lump of coal that was in my stocking to be model railroad related  Bob

Thanks very much Greg. It's best I look at everything I can before I get started or I'll most likely kick myself later!! Bob

    Starting Over Decisions

Thanks Andy. You just confirmed what I have already decided. Using cork and flex track are in my comfort zone. I'll want to use turnouts that are DCC friendly so will take your advise. How is that turntable working? I'm most likely going to buy one of the new Walther ones that hit the market...

    Beach anyone?

Hi Woodie. I like it without the water. although today, as I look out the window at our first snow falling, ice would seem to be more appropriate. I think if you decide to add the water you might want to think about adding some sand as well!!?? Bob

    Starting Over Decisions

As Gary knows I bought a nice DCC several years ago (Digitrax Super Chief) and plan to use it again. Gary. My new layout plan has NO reverse loops on it, although I am toying with the idea of putting in a wye. I still have my boards I bought from Tony's Trains so am all set in that department...

    Starting Over Decisions

Thanks Gary. I'll definitely check out the Walthers/Shinohora turnouts. One of the great things about our move it that I have a hobby shop within about 20 minutes instead of having to drive 100 miles into St. Louis to do my business :) It makes it so much easier. :thumb: Bob

    Starting Over Decisions

Gary; My only response is that I think folks who set up for kids or at not interested in the level of detail you might want to achieve use it because it is quick. I agree that the grey color is not very appealing, but I guess you can cover that with ballast. I think the point that kchronister...

    Starting Over Decisions

I have thought that N scale would probably fit into the space I have better, but I have a ton of money invested in HO rolling stock, power and buildings, so I'll make it fit. I have a workable layout drawn out, but before I started I wondered what others, like yourself, thought about some of the...
