    Ground Foam

Some folks use a 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 water-to-glue mixture instead of 50/50 for light materials like foam and "grass". Some spray with diluted rubbing alcohol before applying the glue mixture. :)

    Blue skys

Donn, With oils you can create a nice sky by starting with aquamarine (a darkish blue) and blending in white toward the horizon. Or for a lighter sky you could start with cerulean blue (That's pretty much what you see when you look out the window on a clear day). The main goal is to get a...

    Confusing "how to" track painting

Don, I don't have the experience that most of these other guys have, but I recently painted my track. All track was down, wired and tested. I used Floquil spray cans. Rail Brown and Grimy Black. Using an 18" by 20" piece of flexible card stock to keep the over-spray off of things I...

    What Is It?

Good grief!...I mean to say...Good grief! That's amazing. I've got to go back to the beginning and look at it again. I found myself wondering..."Now what scale is this? It must be "O"...No?" Terrific! Thanks,

    2-6-2 pulling power

Just for a comparison my IHC 4-8-2 will pull 6 45' hoppers and a caboose up a long 3.8% with no problems. Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 will do the same with 34' hoppers. Is your Bachmann a Spectrum model?

    DCC computer control

Running several trains would be great fun! And I sure can't do it by myself without a PC. There's a good incentive to set up PC control. I wish you hadn't mentioned it. It will haunt me.:)

    DCC computer control

I recently bought a new PC for home use and now have a "spare" PC (Win98) that no one uses. At first I thought that I would like to interface the PC with my DCC system. (I started a layout about a year ago because DCC looked like FUN.) I'm with Jasper. I've been a programmer or somehow...

    Track Cleaning

You might want to clean just the tops of the rail if the track looks good (weathered and rusted) otherwise. The edges of a 2-1/2" X 4" piece of 1/8" masonite make a pretty good cleaner. Similar to the "Bright Boy" but much less expensive and it may do a better job. There's a cleaning...

    Take apart a P2K 0-6-0

I don't hae any LL locos yet, but when adding decoders to steam locos I've found that IHC and Bachmann have a "main screw" under the pilot truck and either screws or "tabs" near the back of the cab. Even with everything loosened some boilers are still a pain to remove and even worse to...

    Mrc Sound Station 312

To borrow an old saying" "PC? We don't need no stinking PC!" :) :D ;) ;) I think we can figure some way to amplify this thing if it needs it. Maybe. :) I think the kids would like it. ;)

    Mrc Sound Station 312

Hi y'all. I would like some sound but can't go the $$ for individual decoders. I would also like to see how the Soundtraxx Suroundsound works out. I found this nice thread about the SS312 from Eddie L. (Nice work Eddie) http://forum.atlasrr.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15438 The MRC SS312...

    Tomorrow is changing day

And that's the truth! Shamus, We're sort of in the "same boat". My son is staying in our "low-rent" establishment while he recovers from 11 mos. of unemployment. Fortunately he is now employed and uses the broadband in his work also, and is paying for it. When he goes I'm not sure...

DCC or DC to power trains

I voted DCC and here's why. :) Twenty-two years ago when my son was 10 we build a 4 X 8 layout "together". It was a lot fun and gave us something else to do together. 17 years ago when we moved we had to "dismantle" (wreck) the layout to get it out of the house. Last year my wife...
