    Hello, another Atlas Orphan

Hi folks, Now that I'm "back at work" after the weekend I'm really missing the A-Forum. It's good to see some of you here. I wonder if the Atlas members will gravitate to one forum more than others. Oh well, maybe I'll get more done for the next 2 months. :)

Decoder in an MDC Roundhouse 2-8-0

Rich, Was the loco built from a kit? I recently purchased a couple of RTR MDC Old-time 2-6-0s and a 2-8-0. I had a problems that sounds very similar to yours with one of the 2-6-0s. When I returned it to MDC they diagnosed "an unusual electrical problem in the manufacturing". All of...

    Another Panoramic View

Here's another panoramic view, although the subject matter doesn't compare with Shamus. This was put together with some "Auto-stitch" (??) software that came with a Canon camera. http://www.railroadforum.com/upload/jwmurrayjr/Layout%20Panarama.jpg If you move your cursor to the lower...

What have you achieved so far in 2004

:) I've made some good progress on my scenery lately. Most of the "basic" scenery is done (first layers of ground cover, some rocks and trees). I've also started a web site: http://www.trainweb.org/silversanjuan/index.html Like the layout the site is a work in progress.

Hi! Well this just ain't true. I emailed John Sipple about running so far behind in the reviews. I bought my Atlas system in 2002 and it has consisting and 5 functions and HandCommands. John is a really nice guy and puts out a very good magazine, one of my favorites. Sorry I can't...

    Need a pic or 2

I just used the photo software that came with the camera (Canon S400). I used the "spray-can" tool with varying degrees of transparency and shades of grey and brown and different "nozzle" sizes. It's very easy. Thanks for asking.:)

    How to visualize your landscape

I think, if you had enough time, that making these scale models of layout could be a pretty good hobby in itself. Much more detail could be added. Maybe I just getting carried away.

    Need a pic or 2

We're finally making some progress on the scenery. Here's a mogul comming down a grade by some carved plaster "cliffs". I added the "animation" to the photo before posting. http://www.railroadforum.com/upload/jwmurrayjr/Mogul%20428%20Retouched.JPG Here's a trestle shot...

    How to visualize your landscape

Andrew, I read the same information in Dave Frary's book on scenery and took the same approach. I also used RTS, Sculptamold and some kid's water colors. The 3-D model helped me work out several problems and plan for tunnels and grades better. And the model was fun to build. I felt...

    Track Cleaning Cars

Shamus, I'm pretty new at this and I've gotten a lot of advice to stay away from abrasive cleaners like Brite-Boy and emory paper. You know your business I know, do you have any comments on this? Thanks,

    Blocks, common-rail wiring or not?

There is an article in a recent issue of Railroad Model Craftsman (December or January, I think) showing how to use common rail on a DC/DCC (switchable) layout using NCE DCC. Edit: It was the December issue: "DCC or d.c. or both by Bob Savino When faced with the decision of whether to...
