    Thomas the tank engine...

Howdy! I put a DH121 in a Bachmann Thomas and it works fine as long as the wheels and wipers are clean. The little guy has quite a bit of gear noise but kids don't mind. The decoder fit (barely) in the cab. I popped the top off and connected the decoder to the little PC board (cut...

    Turntable Recs

Kris, If you've got good slow-speed motor control and can see your turntable you don't need indexing (like the real thing). DCC or a decent power pack will give you good slow-speed control.

Having trouble with downloading Track Drawing Software

Mathew, Do you mean the RTS program will not install or that it will not run at all, or that it is looking for some more files. RTS is not very smart (But I used it for my layout and liked it.) and sometimes you will have to point it to the track libraries, etc. If it's looking for files...

    Up the tunnel

    Well...er...uh...

    Up the tunnel

I provide access panels on the fascia. These are secured with Velcro. I just "finish" the tunnel with some dark paint and some sort of texture (foam or crushed foil) just as far as you can see from a normal angle. Painting the rest black and keeping out stray light helps the effect.

    Cumbres N Toltec Scenic RR

Nut, Great photos! :thumb: Don't you love those old locos and coaches. You can see some photos of our DSNGRR trip in the "links" page of my website if you like. I haven't been on the Cumbres yet but I highly recommend the Durango Silverton trip (round trip 1st class). It's great! :)...

    HELP with DCC

Most decoders will run on DC and DCC. To use a decoder the motor must be electrically "isolated" from the frame. You can check this with an Ohm meter. Maybe if you post the detailed description of each loco someone here will know if the motors are isolated. :)

    Do You........

Ditto! :thumb: A DCC was one of the first things I purchased for about $200 for an Atlas Commander and one HandCommand. I don't have any $200 locos or any other expensive equipment. I figure that DCC, including decoders and A/R units, etc. is about 10% of my "investment" so far and that...

    Question about switch machine decoders?

I feel certain that the new MRC system will work well with any decoders, but you could contact MRC to make sure. Decoders are the "common link" between systems. The MRC will not work with "all DCC components" (from other manufacturers) I'm also certain. But this is true of most systems.

    Question about switch machine decoders?

The Lenz LS150 is an example of a decoder that will control multiple twin-coil (Atlas, etc.) or stall-motor machines. Controls 6 machines. $40 at http://www.litchfieldstation.com. :)
