    General Terminology Question

standard guage Something I remember seeing or hearing about standard guage(4'8 1/2") was that orginally the rails were laid(sp?) as 5' guage to the outside edges of the rails and the flanges on the wheels ran outside. Someone figured it was more efficient to run the flanges inside the rails...

    Happy Birthday Guys

Thanks Thanks guys for all the warm wishes. Stopped by the hobby shop on the way home from work to see what the ole b-day dough might buy. Gonna search the Gauge for recommendations on N-scale road switchers, track, and switches. Hopefully I'll be aquiring right-of-way and laying track...

Two more SP unpatches in Tulsa Just saw two more SP speed lettered units with no patches. Thought I was going color blind at first, because I saw them pulling an auto-rack train on the BNSF line through Tulsa. Also saw a UP powered unit coal train headed the same direction on the same line...

    Coupler Strength

Thanks for the link... Info on that first link is very interesting, considering I saw a BNSF train go into emergency last weak and break 2 knuckles about 10-15 cars back....

Unpatched in Oklahoma A buddy of mine has seen an unpatched SP #311(with speed lettering-I think) as one of three units on a coal train running through Clarmore, OK. Asked if he got any pics, haven't recieved a response yet. If I can nab a pic I'll post it as soon as I can.

    Business Ideas

Cafe?? My first thought was along jon's idea. Some where for all the little plastic folks of the town to eat. This could really wreak havoc on the dispatcher's plans for the day, especially if the train crews like the place. Not sure what would be served since the plastic folk are petroleum...

Backhoe - OK, Trackhoe - ???? The backhoe thing I've seen done. Actually the BN using this arrangement to unload ties this last summer between Claremore, OK and points toward Afton, OK. And having a couple years experience operating backhoes, I don't see a problem with an experienced operator...

    Halloween & spooky train stories

Halloween fun from days gone by.... Brakie, you sound a lot like me.... A couple friends and I, after we were in high school (and too OLD to go trick-or-treating), setup a haunted porch at my parents house. Parents front porch is covered, and runs from the driveway across the front of the...

    The Gauge Railway

Another poll to decide on numbering system? I agree, rimike's numbering system is more prototypical as most railroads or private companies have a primary reporting mark (GAUG), and the larger modern systems typically have a six-digit number. I'm not sure what would be correct for earlier...

    Tree gluing problem

Wish I could help you with the right adhesive, but my experience is still limited to armchair model railroading(a status to be changed very soon due to new job with better money). Just keep checking back, within a couple days the folks around here will provide you with a solution to your...

    Tree gluing problem

Change the season of your layout??? Sounds to me like changing season your modelling, to late fall would be the easy solution. Depending on where you are, with in a few weeks you should have plenty of prototypes to look at.... :D ;)

    Just another Silly Question.......

DPU/Remote engines UP and BN both run coal trains through NE Oklahoma. Generally they run with two engines leading, coal hoppers, and then one(UP) or two(BN) locomotives pushing on the end. The locos on the end have their headlights on dim - no ditch lights, red lights, or EOT device.

    The Gauge Railway

Modified idea - with recent input To include the scale in my previous suggestion: TGNB 033301 T = "The" G = "Gauge Railroad(way)" N = scale of car - see below for scales B = type of car - see below for types 0333 = "member number" four digits allows for 10,000 01 = car number - I...
