    Where's Your Layout?

Mine is in the basement for now, until the new garage is built. Then I will have WAAAAYYYY more room, roughly 27x24.

    Going through changes...

Mark, you make a good point with the detail in HO. I guess if I wanted to I could still detail the HO stuff just for a diorama or something of that nature. I do wish though that the N scale stuff wasn't the same price as their bigger HO cousins, oh well. Thanks guys :)

    Going through changes...

Ok people, how many of you out there that switched from HO to N had a difficult time adjusting to it? Like, do you really miss the amount of detail that can be had in HO? I only ask because the layout space that is being planned is 28x24 and I'm thinkin' that N scale maybe the way to go if I...

    Chi-Town Union Station

So I went to see this layout today and snapped a bunch of pics, all I have to say is WOW! It is in an old grocery store that the owner bought. On the flyer that's handed out: "As of December 2007, the layout covers 5,700 square feet and has more than 6,000 feet of track. The B&O, The Santa Fe...

    Chi-Town Union Station

Any of you here in Michigan been to see this layout in Commerce Twp? They're open this weekend and I was thinking about checking it out. Apparently it's around 5000 sq. ft. in size and is the biggest O Scale layout in the country. It's in an old grocery store and there's videos of it on youtube...

    live by train tracks?

Yeah, not much traffic in that yard anymore. A lot has changed in Michigan's railroad scene. Just like the Tuscola and Saginaw Bay is now Great Lakes Central Railroad. Central Michigan was bought back a few years ago by RailAmerica which also owns Huron and Eastern in the thumb area. Then a year...

    live by train tracks?

Yeah, the store is still there. Once in awhile they will still stop there, sometimes they will even stop at Mcdonalds. They aren't even "in the hole" when they stop sometimes. I believe CSX sold off the property from Saginaw yard north just this past year, but I could be wrong. I do know that...

    live by train tracks?

We currently live less than 100' from CSX's Saginaw Subdivision at the south end of Clyde Siding. Not nearly as busy as it used to be now that there's not much left of GM in Flint and CSX abandoned some of the trackage up farther north. Doesn't help that CSX only goes to Flint Yard and then it's...

    Attention Conrail Modelers!

Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move. To all you Conrail modelers out there. I don't know if any of you know about this or not, but I found this huge resource of Track Charts, ETT's, Interlocking Charts, Maps and other documentation which could be helpful in railroad operations...

    How to find "your era"

Have you tried searching places like Yahoo Groups? Maybe there's a group on there that models logging railroads. I do know of two sites with some info (even though I'm not into logging rr). Logging LoggingRailroads.com I would do a search on amazon.com for books about logging railroads also...

    Walthers Auto-Rack loading ramp?

Good luck finding one, I keep looking and can't find them anywhere. I had one in the box awhile back and decided to sell it because I thought I wouldn't use it and I could just kick myself for doing that. wall1

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part I

Morning everybody. 30 degrees here with some light snow falling, at least it's not below zero! With three weeks of layoff time I think I can find some time to work on trains :) That is after I complete some of the things on the "honey do" list.... Gotta run, have a good day!

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part I

Morning everyone. 17 degrees out, at least it's above zero! As I type, CSX is going through the back yard, looks like mixed freight with a HLCX unit on the head end. Started to plan the BIG layout for the second floor of the garage, may not come to fruition for a few years, but I have to have a...
