    Wp 563

That WP engine had four different paint schemes during its career on the WP. It went onto the CCT for its fifth paint scheme then Foster Farms for its sixth paint scheme. The paint it's wearing in the FF picture is all orange with silver steps called the pumpkin paint scheme. Greg Elems

    Wp 563

The latest repaint at the Portola RR museum. WP 563 was one of two Alco switchers painted like this in the early 1970's. I don't think it is running currently but could be tinkered with and running without too much work. Greg

Hi Dick, Long time no see. :D Glad to see you are still modeling. Great looking station by the way. Those FT's will look great gliding by. Greg

How long have you been a model railroader?

I started in earnest in 1969, with a Lionel train set. In 1970 I picked up a couple of Lionel flat cars and made a couple of old time passenger shells to put on them. Card board was cheap and they looked good to me, a 12yr old. Balsa wood was used to make cattle cars next, and they went on...

Conrod, You are welcome. I'm glad to hear you solved your problem and it sounds like adding the straight didn't adversely affect your layout.:thumb: Greg

    locomotives running on 15" track

Question. How far does the Kadee overhang on the curve? A car about the same length with body mounted couplers should have the same overhang which should allow it to couple. When I’ve had coupling problems, I try to make sure I do it on a straight section of track. A good question though...

    Classification light question.

Ah the beauty of DCC. :) Besides the class lights on, the number boards would be lit also on both ends. Trailing units or units not specified for train identification wouldn't have the class lights or number boards lit. Cheers, Greg

    Classification light question.

Generally class lights were on only the unit that the train orders were for. So if BN4545 is on the train orders, it's class lights would be the only ones on for that train. With that being said, white was for extra trains, not listed on the timetable. Green meant that there was a second...

    Diesel I.D. Question

Well according to the list of owners in the drawing, CN and CP had late GP9's. Add the dynamic brakes from an Athearn GP7 and paint away. Good luck with your project. Greg

    70's Question...

In general use, the 40' was still around in the late 70's and even a few were seen in the early 80's. The recession of the early 80's pretty much removed them from service. I used to see them still hauling grain in 1981. Greg

Unknown Engine and A tie replacement machine septa/amtrak

Great pictures. Notice too that the old rail is lifted out to the side while new ribbon rail is put back with the new concrete ties. UP leases one of those machines and its called a P811. It's amazing how fast they move along. The limiting factor is the concrete ties. Replace and move till...
