Building the RK&M III: The Mountain

Has anyone used one of the fast set drywall compounds instead of plaster? They are setting compounds like plaster and they set up fast. IMHO they are easier to work with than plaster of Paris or patching plaster. For that matter, when you folks talk of plaster, just exactly what do you mean?

    2nd Loco.......my heart skiped a beat

Is it possible for you to get photos or at least a good list of what all she has for sale? You could do her and us a favor by listing it on the for sale forum.

Thanks, Frank. I'm a contractor but I have never seen that before; looks interesting! Unfortunately no local distributers.

Building the RK&M III: The Mountain

Slightly off topic perhaps, but are tunnels ever made for a dual line main line? The layout I'm building in my mind will have a double main line with normal spacing between the tracks. This will be the transition from one room to the next in my perimeter shelf layout in the basement.

Started Scenery on the BAD Western

Dumb question from a newbie, but why ceiling tiles instead of foam plastic? I guess they are cheap, for one thing. Are they about the same as Homasote?

    Noisy Loco

In thinking back on that store visit - I visited several stores and lost track of what I saw where - the noisy loco was actually a double header pulling a long train. I would guess both locos were the same and about 4-8-2 size. Very possible they had just been run to death there in the store...

    My first HO Locomotive

Wow! I'm green with envy! I went look-shopping at a couple model train stores yesterday and ticker shock got me.

    Noisy Loco

I went look shopping today to check out a couple train stores in the area. At one they had two or three long HO trains running on good-sized oval tracks. One was a steamer (forgot to note the type, but it was big) pulling a long train. What bothered me was the noise. The engine made a fairly...

    Atlas Freeware Layout Program

I'll try; I don't think they will mind: http://software.atlasrr.com/software/rts7.zip It is a zip file and you will have to work a bit to get it in the right place on your computer.

    Atlas Freeware Layout Program

Atlas responded from their newsletter editor and also the webmaster(?) and he gave me a direct link to download the program. I did that and will try it out asap. Thanks all for the help.

    Atlas Freeware Layout Program

I tried again to register to download the software and got nowhere. I note that the "visitor ID" number is the same as the last time I tried. That tells me their registration program is not working. I could find no way to contact them on the Internet but I found an email address for the editor...

    Time Periods

Fred, fascinating rundown! I enjoy history. My model RR interest starts around 1930 (my birthday!) and on from there, but primarily steamers. My grandad was an engineer on MoPac lines and an uncle was a fireman on MoPac after WWII.

    Atlas Freeware Layout Program

Well, I'm still being ignored by Atlas, as far as I'm concerned. I tried to contact them on the 'net but got nowhere. I'll try that again.

    Atlas Freeware Layout Program

Thanks for the response. I tried that link and ended up on the same registration page as before. I registered again, so we will see if they send the confirming email this time. They suggest that if it doesn't come through that I might have my security set too tight, but I get emails from other...

    Atlas Freeware Layout Program

I see the ads for this new version of their program and I have tried to download it - twice - without success. They say I need to be registered, so I do that. Then they say they will contact me by email and give me download directions, but they don't follow through. Its been several days since...
