That car topper was so freaking cool!!!!!:D :D :D I showed it to all the guys in the office and they were floored......and they're not even into trains. I would pay to get to operate one of those for an hour!!!!!:thumb:

    Christmas tree layout

Not really sure if the budget allows for razor wire. Then again, if I put some up, my wife would no longer be living in the house. That might save some money somehow. You guys are terrible! :D :D -doc

    beginners questions

Bill, When I was a kid, my dad built me a layout table in the garage that was hinged to the wall. It was the size of a full piece of plywood so the reach to the back was quite long. We also had to spend alot of time making sure EVERYTHING was in place at the end of the day so as to not crush...

    Christmas tree layout

It's Godziiiiiillllaa!! I really wish I could get a train to run under the tree. My little 15 month old princess (A.K.A. Monster) would have a blast putting daddy's $200 train in her mouth then throwing it as hard as she could on the floor to hear how loud she could make it crash! Anyone...

    policy?

I say, if it's going to impinge (sp) on rail operations in any way, NO SMOKING. If it's strictly a compatibility issue w/other members, whomever lights up around the non-smokers must get permission first. If someone's going to pollute my surrounding environment, I'd like to be asked first. :)...

    Going to Washington D.C.

CarlFidy, Thanks for the advice, but I am not able to pick where I fly into. Most likely it will be dulles. And do I ever wish I could rent a car, but the government is stingy on paying for rental cars, and I don't wanna pay for one. Anyways, would you want your tax dollars paying for my...

    Derailment

I've honestly gotten used to it. When the first 6.0 quake hit niigata last saturday, I was on duty in a one story clinic, and I definitely felt it (about 3.0 where we were). It's worse at my house. We live in a tower on the 5th floor. Since all buildings are now supposed to conform to certain...

    Derailment

60103, That's what the TV said. It is definitely repairable. It goes back to the whole part of the story about the stabilization weights on the train. Kinda like my friend whose dad had the old Ford Fairlane that was originally a block of iron that was carved into the shape of a car.:D -doc

    Railroad Done..Now What?

LOL dash! Lemme guess.....they were all about drinking beer and just shootin it, and then sometimes running their trains on their "complete" layout when they found the time! Just a guess:D -doc

    Derailment

I didn't mean the story was great! It is a horrible situation! I meant that I had seen some great (good quality) pictures. The scene I was referring to is remarkable because I had never seen anything like it. Please don't get the impression that I'm some derranged sadist or anything.:( Hell...

    Derailment

For all those interested, the earthquake here in Japan had an effect on the rail industry as well. Here are a couple pictures of resulting problems from the quake This is the derailment of the Series 200 Toki Shinkansen going from Tokyo to Niigata (the location of the epicenter). This was...

    Going to Washington D.C.

Wow!! Thanks a million for the map train nut!:thumb: That should get me pointed in the right direction!! Mikey, as for the pic, you've stumped me! :( I'll see what I can find out though. The uniform looks like the master conductor (rough translation) uniform. Master...

    Going to Washington D.C.

Mikey, Thanks for the info. I thought the smithsonian would have something, but I wasn't sure. As for the kids, I am assuming they were school kids going to/from school. All school aged kids (excluding kindergarten) wear uniforms to school. It's dictated by the ministry of education, and each...

    Going to Washington D.C.

Hey everyone. I will be going to D.C. on business around the second week in November. Since I'll be going from Japan, and I haven't been stateside for about 2 years now, I'm up for some sightseeing during my off hours. I of course will be going to alot of the memorials and such, but what...

    Railroad Done..Now What?

How about hitting the Virtual Disaster Button like on the Sim City games, and just wreak havoc on one area of the layout.:thumb: I bet pictures of Godzilla or a UFO ray-gunning part of your landscape would make for some awesome pictures!!!   Then when the thrill of modelling all...

It's MONDAY 10-18-04, weekend modeling accomplishments!

Finally I finally got started with my train layout. Well, not really my layout. We were at my in-law's house, and my wife just sprung up and said "you need to go buy some train stuff so you shut up". That was good enough for me!!:thumb: :thumb: . I bought a standard KATO starter set (Passport...
