getting a train to run back and forth by itself?

What if you were to use IR sensors (or any type for that matter) close to each end of the track, and rig up some simple device to automatically switch the polarity for you when you trip one of the sensors? I'm not sure what kind of device you would want to use to switch your polarity though...

Of interest to cell phone owning modelers and their kinfolk...

Shay, Isn't that a harsh punishment for someone looking out for you? I would agree at a minimum, there should be a public humiliation session.:thumb: :D For being an urban legend, it did turn out to be an effective tool against those telemarketers. BTW, did you hear, companies are now...

    Tables

Here is the link to one of the product pages for Kato Japan. http://www.katomodels.com/distribution/stock_search_e2.shtml They make pre-fabricated panels for layouts. I know it says "for japan only", but any Kato dealer can probably work something out for you stateside. Maybe not though. You...

Of interest to cell phone owning modelers and their kinfolk...

Shay, unfortunately, I have to agree with dwight. Who authorizes/directs EVERY cellular phone provider to release their entire phone directories to paying companies. Where did you get this info from if you don't mind me asking? OTOH, It is never a bad idea to register your numbers with the...

Cold Solder - as advertised on TV

My mom tried getting one for Christmas for me, but their website said they were on back order, and all of the auto parts stores were sold out. Instead I get a dremel. Not too bad of a switch if I do say so!:D -doc

    Electrical Help Needed.

Attached is a very butchered drawing of a lift-out section. It was a masterpiece w/colors and much larger, but the forum only lets you use so much memory, and so much physical size for each attachment. Anyways, Woodie, if the wiring isn't what you meant, or it is a little different than what you...

    Christmas tree layout

Is that the disney monorail? If so, do you know if they have it in N-gauge? I would love to add a monorail for my layout, but so far I can't find anything but HO. Looks great BTW!!!:thumb: -doc

    computer control

Conor, That website you linked seemed to me (a total novice) like a decent system. As for your computer, I don't think 3.1 will work with their software. If you read in the FAQ's, they talk about running their original program in DOS (which would work in a DOS prompt in 3.1, but who likes...

    Electrical Help Needed.

I agree w/Woodie 100%. That is an awesome plan for a fool-proof safety cutout! If you were really into wiring, you could find some schematics on safety cutouts somewhere and wire one up for yourself, but this is totally practical w/o having to go buy too many circuitry components!:thumb: -doc

    loss of power

Joe, My question to you is.....is there power going to the inner loop? I know it may be a simple question, but with my experiences with electrical troubleshooting, it's the simple questions that shine the brightest light. :D -doc
