    Some rare engines...

Well, what I was thinking of was the fact that Southern ran then engines with the cab at the back, so there was more between any obstacles on the tracks and the crew. I just wonder if any other RR did that as well? Michael

    Some rare engines...

Unlike Southern, NS prefers short hood forward! ;)

    Some rare engines...

These next two were not there long, and the sun was too far south for a better picture, so please bear with them. The one on the left is a SOU GP38 high hood and the one on the left is a SOU GP38-2 high hood. Not too many high hoods left running on NS, at least in this neck of the woods! :)...

    Some rare engines...

I've been seeing a few interesting engines around the Norfolk Southern Training Center in McDonough, GA this year. I often don't have my camera with me when I get off of work in the morning, so I havn't been able to photograph them since their presence on the siding is not frequent enough to...

is NS and BNSF trying to merge?

We often see the coal train going through Stockbridge. We are on the eastern line of the two lines between Atlanta and Macon. All the cars have Georgia Power markings on them, and are full S/B and empty N/B. All I have ever seen is 2 engines up front and one in the rear. Here are some...

    Question re water level

Don't forget, Val, that location will have an affect on the tides also. Some locations in Maine see 10' to 15' tides, while some locations see only a foot or two. The terrain is a major factor in tide heights. So short answer, go with whatever you think looks good. Hell, anything you can...

Santa Fe Zebra Stripe FM H12-44 in N scale

Beautiful work. It is good to see that I'm not the only one who takes the older engines and cars and works with them. Now, here is my address so you can ship the engine to me.... :) Michael

Printing on Wood with an Inkjet Printer

I had to use that when I had a presentation I had to give in a class project in college. They make one type for laser printers and one for inkjet. Like Fred said, make sure you use the right side up! Michael

    How to remove lettering

I would be careful with the 91% Isopropyl. I use that to strip paint from shells! I have to leave them in for a while, so I don't know what a short exposure would do. Just my $0.02 worth (tax and title extra) Michael

    The Gauge - Online Magazine

Have you checked with seanm? In the Thomas webpage thread, he was offering some free space for RR sites. Perhaps you could work something out with him? Michael

    I did something rash....

Good! I thought I was crazy for doing that on some of my son's locomotives that the drawbar kept breaking between the engine and the tender. Goes to show you, if a modeler does it, SOMEWHERE there is a prototype that did it too! Michael

    Real Life Thomas

No, thanks for posting all this info on the web. My son loves Thomas, and so do a few adult friends of his.... ;) And thanks to Sean for making the space available. Now I don't have to fight Yahoo over "Bandwith Exceeded" messages! Michael

    Track ballast and hammers

Woodie, for that tip I'm putting you up for Patron Saint of Model Railroaders! :p :) What a wonderful idea. Can't wait to try it out. I've been putting off finishing the ballasting because of all those $(*#^@ grains refuse to stay put.... Michael

    Real Life Thomas

You like trains and pipes. Pity you live on the left coast. If you were out here, I'd have somebody to hang out with who likes two of my joys. ;) The web space sounds good. Now I just have to figure out what I would put on it!   :D Michael

    Layout work

Sometime before the next century. Hard to nail it down any more than that! :) ;) Lately, I've had enough time to work on some of my son's engines. Just getting a few broken ones back up and running. I'll have to take a picture one of these days.... Michael

    Real Life Thomas

I found this through the How Stuff Works website. This guy figured out what real life engines Thomas and the other engines were based on. Check out his site at http://www.geocities.com/martinclutt/awdry/! :thumb: Michael

    Layout work

After 6 months, I finally got Erin to take a nap long enough for me to work on my layout again. Incredible how much time a baby can take up! Of course, she didn't sleep long so I didn't get much done besides FINALLY putting in the industrial siding I have been wanting to do and...
