    Disaster on Eagle Mountain

I have now turned a tragety into an opportunity. On the way home from work, I stopped off at the local hobby store and blew a bunch of money on scenery related materials. I got a bunch of rock molds, some more ground foam to replace the trees, some ground cover, a few little buildings, some...

    Salvaging an old layout...

Actually, the track can be pulled quite easily and only the ballast would be disturbed. The problem I have is the track is secured directly to the plywood which causes kinks in the rail when it gets humid. It also causes problems at the point where the various pieces of wood butt up together...

    Disaster on Eagle Mountain

Hey, it wasn't MY cat that did the damage. My cat chased off the damage causer...:D Unfortunately, there is a situation developing with the neighbor's cat that is disturbing. My cat is a bit of a loner and therefore does not allow other cats into his territory (like the shop/layout area)...

    Salvaging an old layout...

I would like to save parts of my old layout which were built 15-20 years ago. The track is not of good quality (I didn't have a lot of cash laying around) and it was not given a proper foundation (I didn't know what the heck I was doing and was in too big a hurry to read up on the subject...):p...

    Disaster on Eagle Mountain

Dateline: Eagle Mountain, Today Location: Eagle Mountain Sub, Arizona In a related story: It was discovered by the little plastic geologists that are glued next to the geology building in the mine complex, that our world is not (as previously believed) a solid ball of matter with an iron...

    Disaster on Eagle Mountain

Dateline: Eagle Mountain, Yesterday Location: Eagle Mountain Sub, Arizona Body of Text: A disaster took place on Eagle Mountain yesterday, as the morning shift was preparing to continue reballasting the line leading into the mine complex. Joe Smith, a little plastic man who works on the...

    Stripwood?

Another source of "old wood" for those of us too cheap to buy it "ready made...";) When I started modeling, my weekly budget was extremely limited so I always looked for ways to do things "on the cheap." I would see a lot of old furniture thrown away while I was out wandering around in the...

I gott'a go with the majority on this one and say that this guy is crazy...:D This does bring up an interesting point though. I have often wondered how they got backhoes on top of MOW gons so frequently without having a crane handy. But, in another vein... The attached picture shows a...

    Northern California Model RR Show

Where can I get information on the shows in California, especially in Southern California. The magazines aren't real great about listing them all. I get out there a lot on business and would love to be able to see if one coincides with a weekend off. Thanks, Tom F

    Walts Stumps

Hey Walt, how about linking to some other site in the meantime? Lots of space out there if you know where to look. You could even go in with some others to share an entry with a button linking to your site. That way, you have a place to point your URL without having to maintain an expensive...

    EMD GP15's

Chessie had GP15s? Got any pictures? Man, I'd like to see some. Now I have an excuse to buy a couple more in Chessie paint...:p A lot of my mother's family worked for the Chessie so even though I model the contemporary Southwest, every once in a while a wormhole opens up and a classic...

    cd pic displaying problem

My two cents... Ron, if the program you have IS Photoshop, get something else. Photoshop is a fantastic program (my favorite) if you are familiar with advanced image editing. If not, you are going to drive yourself crazy...:p Paint Shop is far more intuitive for the beginner. I also went...

    EMD Switcher ID

Thanks guys... I went to three stores here and not a one of 'em had any. The owner was not at the shop I have been going to for about 20 years and the kid behind the counter didn't even know what a SW1500 was (Lord help me...) Phoenix, unfortunately, is a bit of a backwater when...

Sunday, A Day Of Rest, A Day To Enjoy - Hello All, Have A Cup

I'm getting all my stuff winterized here in AZ too... Get the boat uncovered and ready for use, take the "anti boil" cover off the pool and get it ready for use... Ah, I see the trees are turning too. Nice color of green comin' back to replace the "blast furnace" brown. Just took a peak...

    Power in your hometown

With the UP and BNSF both in residence in Phoenix, just about anything comes through. The UP has a couple of local jobs, one site in Tempe, one sits in Mesa, that usually have a couple of GP40-2s, although both of these have been the final haunts of the SP GP38-2s. I noticed the other day that...

    EMD Switcher ID

Hey, I was looking for some SW1500s recently. Does Athern still make 'em? The local hobby shops don't carry them. The NS one pictured with the flexicoil trucks is exactly what I want (except I want it in SP paint). Anyone know where the critters can be found? Tom F

    Need help!!!

Hey Rusty, that beats my idea of peeking into windows and snapping pictures while nobody is looking... That got me in trouble last time... ("No really officer, it's for my train layout--What? Oh, yeah, I got a sorority house on my layout..."):p Hey Tyler, don't forget to look in...

    Power Question

Like some of the others said, it has got to be a bad wire/connection. The distance from the transformer would not be a problem, unless we are talking about sending DC current a few miles... If you were trying to send DC too far, it would just degrade (and derate) to a lower current available...
