    I like what your doing TW, gonna give me good ideas watching the way you are doing your layout. Have you thought about spray can of paint for the cardboard, I have used testers spray on cardboard and it worked great.

    I think you are right david, and also in the plastic bottle the ballast comes in, it seemed darker, but once it was laid out on the layout with other colors around(ground cover and black RR ties) it really looked almost white. So.... buh-bye light grey ballast. But it will be good for dirt...

    what engine is it? does yours make any noise when jerking? I have one also, an HO lifelike 0-4-0 that I need to send to them for a replacement but haven't done. Mine sounds like the two gears are skipping on each other. One gear on the shaft from the motor and the other on the drive axle.

    we put down the track this weekend although another siding could be added later. next is wiring, scenery and buildings will be next step along with a back drop. the steamer and sante fe are lifelike and the UP is bachman, although entry level since I bought it off ebay used for eight bucks but...
