I promise all this will come together soon  but a question first....
what does 12 inches translate to feet in HO scale? I am making a grain elevator from scratch and have made the silos 12 inches tall. Not too worried about being to scale that much but was curios how tall those would...
if you saw the simplistic stuff I am doing, your's looks like you're a seasoned veteran compared to our plywood and cardboard expanse. great progress and platform.
NOTHING TO SEE HERE... MOVE ALONG
a little bit-o-progress. I am going for a commercial area on the outskirts of town. trim out work on the warehouse and oil tanks will begin tonight along with scenery around them. I painted straws for pipes and the tanks are oatmeal container cut in half...
hey cabdriver.. I saw the southern pacific engine 8268 this morning.. I saw the numbers on the side and then checked here online and sure enough same engine. It was headed toward houston and it was lead engine with a couple for UP's pulling a mixed freight.
union pacific uses the same track going through downtown and past the station, you can walk right up to the train as it comes through at maybe 10mph. it's about thirty minutes from me but we'll have to get some close up shots. the track also crosses the downtown lake with a pedestrian bridge...
the big steam engine is out of service for now I hear.. the main train was out for a run for the day. I'll try to get out there and take more pics when all the coaches are there.

these are at the local amtrak station right downtown. the station is old and not much at all to look at. the boys and I had time to kill so we watched the train come in from san antonio on the way to chicago.
uhhhh.... uhhhhh....  :D
I am speechless. That is going to be awesome. :thumb:
I am having enough trouble doing scenery on a 4X8, let alone.....WOW
I like the idea, brilliant. Huge layout in a small space? hmmmm....
looks great trainwhiz.....!! Will be cool to see all the activity you will have going on in that scene. Also the weathering looks good. I like the office, looks great.
keep up the good work.
:thumb: :thumb: great stuff... ya'll are down near S.A. right? that train looks alot like the ones that pass through here in round rock. who knows, that train may have been on the way up through here!
john
cabdriver, just be patient. It will all come to you. I know I am going through the same thing. I am working on a 4X8, which maybe I should've gone smaller, but I am slowing down because if I try to rush myself I get frustrated because I want quick results. A lot of big layouts that circle...
yes, but how do you really feel........:D
if you end up having to, flip your plywood over, don't by a new one, unless you have already flipped it before
hope everything turns out alright.
p.s. like your avatar.
not much to look at yet, there is more mess on the layout right now than anything. I am starting to do everything on a work table now instead of having supplies all over the layout.
I am shaping foam for the hillside we'll be working on this weekend and do some more ballasting also. having...
I like the idea of angle parking. that's what I am used to down here in texas. but that may have been in smaller towns than what you are trying to model. To me, angle parking is for more family type downtown areas(touristy) and parallel parking is for city downtowns. (my two cents)
I also...
