    Sawing or Cutting Plastic?

Robert, Yes any where they sell the craft-knives should carry the extra types of blades as well. Also the rotary tool suppliers for the dremel have a very small fine toothed circular saw blade too. Extreme care with this though ! It can catch and seriously injure you. Joe

    Sawing or Cutting Plastic?

Robert, Also the X-acto Co makes small razor saw blades that fit their knife handles. I don't recall the numbers of them but I think they make two sizes. Joe

    Woohoo! Finally laying track!

Gary, I remember the feeling ! Enjoy, but also realize one's layout is really never done. That's another enjoyment also, re-doing, adding to & improving it. As for the ballasting question, I can't help much. I use code 100, and since code 83 ties are thicker, you will use more ballast than...

    Another Coupler Question

The afore mentioned shims come in 3 thicknesses. They are they same shape as looking down at a kadee coupler box lid. Made to shim between the coupler box and the car. thus lowering the coupler box. There are 2 thicknesses, .010 & .015 made in plastic. The third thickness is closer to .025 made...

    Another Coupler Question

TJ, Try either # 24 or # 27 by Kadee. Either should work. If you purchase and keep handy # 22 or # 25, You'll be ready for those too high and too low cars ! Between these offset couplers, the washers ( on the bolsters ) and the shims ( same shape as the coupler box), you can pretty much...

    Snap Switches

racer25j, Way back when I got started, I used to paint the exposed side of the slide button the appropriate color of red (diverge) or green (normal) route to help at a glance the position or throw of a turnout ! Let the paint dry well before using the controller. They use to include a small...

    Starting over on weathering

John, I think you will gain on the results you want by first applying a coat of clear dull coat preferably with airbrush, which will not only tone down that bright plastic shine, but give the surface a little bit of texture for further treatments, weather it be chalk dust, paint, charcoal or...

    making track grades

Doc, Some time ago while building some grades on my layout I needed to go from about 5/16 down to zero - I used construction shim shingles that we used to shim store fronts in place prior to anchoring them, when I was working ( retired now ). Usually about 12" long, 4" to 6" wide, 5/16 at one...

    Double Crossover?

I don't want to ruffle any feathers or start a ruckus, but I refuse to believe that somewhere in these " Great United States " that there is not at least one double crossover still in use on a mainline !
