    Wiring

Good day, gentlemen. I wish to tap the collective knowledge for the answer to some simple questions. What gauge of wire should be used to wire a layout ? Stranded or solid ? Would bell wire work ? Thanks, Bill:confused:

    Canadian Mail Orders

I guess I hadn't factored in any profit for the local man. They do it for the love of the hobby, don't they? :D Thanks for your reply, Mike, and thanks to Steve and Ron also for the good tips..

    Canadian Mail Orders

For the most part, I intend to use my local hobby shop for 'day to day' supplies. I've never ordered from the US directly, assuming that the lesser value of the Canadian $, the shipping charges, the customs duties and federal sales tax would make the item just as cheap from my local. What...

Announcing the HO Scale Urban Scene Website

Great site, Spitfire. I think I stumbled into it a while ago, but at that time it was still a work in the progress. I meant to go back and revisit at a later date, but I had lost the bookmark somehow, and couldn't remember the name. Us old farts do tend to forget things once in a while...

    Tip o' the Day

I found that if I used her best sewing scissors often enough, she would buy me some of my own. A dangerous path, I agree. I would not recommend this method for everyone. :D

poll steam or diesel or your layout

I will be modelling in the early twentieth century time frame. Perhaps 1900 - 1930. My layout will be very small with tight curves, so I guess that will be short radius steam units such as 0-4-0T or 0-6-0T and perhaps an electric kit-bashed, low-profile mine unit or two.

    Stupid Criminals

As a youngster I lived in a small town in Southwestern Ontario in the late 40's and early 50's. We had three main lines running through town, NY Central, C&O and Canadian Pacific. There were three level crossings within earshot of those lovely steam whistles. I can hear them yet in memory...

    Headin' for Divorce Court

Ha ha ha. You have my sympathies, Rory. Has any one of us ever NOT had something like this happen? As TV comedian Red Green would say, "I'm pullin' for ya! We're all in this together!" :p

    Poll

Ha ha ha. Gee, billk, if you were able to think of everything, then there would be nothing to fiddle with on your railroad. Wouldn't it be boring if everything went right the first time?:D

    Poll

I just voted and viewed. Seemed to work fine for me. As I will be modeling an HO narrow gauge, most of the model will of course be HO. Bill

    Snow covered trees

They look kinda like Golden Rod, Andy. The plants about 2 or 3 feet high with woody stems and yellow flowers. Even if they're not, I think Golden Rod would work. Thanks for the tip. Bill
