    Finally!

Actually, I had thought of that, Tyson. I was already considering the purchase of a 4-4-0, or some other steamer with a longer wheelbase or larger diameter wheels. The stall points don't seem to always be in the same places, so it well could be the LifeLike 0-6-0. The electrical supply tests...

    Finally!

Thanks everyone. It IS very exciting. I'm unable to post pictures at the present time but I did try to post the layout. It was too large and I don't know how to reduce it. Not sure that my old computer has the space to do it anyway. It appears at the bottom of the page at this link...

    LC Scale Modelling?

Nice pictures, Rory. Your son has a good imagination. He looks quite tall for his age too. I'm sure you and he will have many fine modelling years ahead.

    Finally!

Well, guys and gals, I just cranked up the power to my little railroad empire and everything seems to be working alright. It's a small switching layout (12" x 72") serving a couple of industries on the edge of town. I've cleaned the track, and my little LifeLike 0-6-0 saddle tank pulls and...

Plexiglass - where to buy in Toronto?

I've seen flip-down face shields made from green plastic. It would be thin enough to cut with scissors, I think. They may be sold to protect workers from welding flash. Perhaps a welding supplies distributor? Perhaps some of the aftermarket film for tinting car windows from Canadian Tire...

Very Unpleasant Day in the East

We were out of province on the 'West Coast' of Michigan near Grand Haven on thursday and friday. We heard of the blackout on television in the motel room on friday morning. There were no problems that far west. We returned home to London on Friday evening and the neighbours informed us that...

    Any experience with ... ?

I said I would let you know regarding Udisco Ltd. I received my order of Atlas N manual turnouts this morning, less than 48 hours after it was placed. It was well packaged and everything appears to be in good order. Total cost for the 12 turnouts was $122.71 CDN including shipping...

    Swiss Electric with a twist

heh heh You mean I could convert my little N gauge 0-6-0 to keep the sparks flying off the overhead and still remain prototypical? What a hoot that would be!

Old Coach at Hearne, TX Service Facility

LCRX reporting mark is "Lower Colorado River Authority". Hmmmm ... maybe an office car, Rory? GATX is, I think, "General American Marks Company"

I echo the previous statements. Welcome back Shamus. You have given this neophyte a detailed inside look at modelmaking. Thank for that and all future teachings.

    Any experience with ... ?

I appreciate the information, Chris. Thanks. I will try the Atlas switches anyhow as my little pike is a minor hobby at present. When it becomes an obsession, :) probably on the very next one I build, I may take a look at what Peco has to offer. I try to buy most things from the LHS but...

Well, I guess that's a 'NO'. :) Thanks for looking, folks. I'll let you know if I have any trouble.

    Any experience with ... ?

The time has come for me to purchase about a dozen switches for my small layout. I would like to know if anyone has had any experience ordering from Udisco in Montreal. Their prices seem to be about 50 percent less than my LHS.[about $10CDN ($7USF) for Atlas manual switches in N gauge]

    Today is The Day!

That is good news, Mike. Make sure the area for the trains is roped off BEFORE the little lady makes plans for it. :)

    DCC Section

Although I have no wish to progress into DCC, I have voted FOR the separate discussion. With all the expertise contained within this bulletin board, it would be a very useful tool for those who are interested in advancing their knowledge and modelling skills.
