    Brampton Ontario train show

Do you have any more details (start times, costs, etc.) It looks like I'm heading to the warmer south this weekend and might be able to stop in on Sunday. Garry PS yes I know to most people Southern Ontario is not the warmer south but when you live north of Barrie we are snow bound all...

    Building Plans

While searching for plans to build a shed one of my co-workers found this site http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/abeng/plans/ It is the North Dakota State University Extension service site. They have all kinds of building plans available. Alot of them are free to download from the site...

I have noticed that error now and again. I just assumed that the "net" was busy. Usually I wait a couple of minutes (hours) and try again. Garry

Not a good trick or tip

I'm not sure if that much is too hot. We tried one cut saw that it would work and then shut things down. A lower setting should work. How fast do these actually cut? I have never seen a comercial model work. We were able to zip through the test piece pretty quickly. Gsrry

Help with paint colour Via 6429

I recently aquired a couple of F40PH locos (thanks again absnut)and would like to repaint them to Via colours. I found a nice set of decals that will let me model the Home hardware propmotional loco but I have no idea what base colour of yellow to use. I would like to be at least in the ball...

Not a good trick or tip

Well Andrew I came in to some nichrome wire (a friend had a roll in his work bench from the previous owner) and gave it a try. Just using a couple of aligator clips and a variable dc supply we were able to cut foam very nicely. Thanks for the tip. For the technically interested the wire...

Not a good trick or tip

Well I was considering earlier today to post a tip for cutting rigid styrofoam. I have been building up a few levels on one of my Ntrak modules to have a set of tracks at mountain division. To cut the curves I wanted in the 1" foam boards I thought I would use the electric carving knife. It...

Ntraker as well. Our group is 2 full time and a couple or three part time members. I've being toying with the idea of building a couple of Ttrak modules and my partner is looking at a few OneTrak modules to add to his layout.

    Advice needed on spur

If you want only one spur I would go for the straight one. It will allow you to bring the factory away from the cliff behind it. This will give you an area to do some small scene behind the factory. In our modular group we have one of the guys who is truly amazing with scenery and one...

    Kelowna fires

Heard on the news (weather channel of all places) that both the Federal and Provincial governments have pledged money to rebuild Myra Canyon. What this practically means I not sure but I guess it is a start. The other thing I heard this morning on the news that a group of Canadian song...

    An "old" Photograph

Thanks for the secrets. One comment on the difference between the colour and BW/Sepia photos. After playing with photography in another hobby life I found that sometimes colour photos hide texture and details that only appear when the colour is stripped away. Another aside. When...

I missed the first attempted but this one really gives the effect of an old picture. Now for the 64 cent question. How did you do it? Garry

    To the Canadian members

It seems that most of the couriers have outragous fees. If I remember the last time I used UPS it was around $50.00 USD for them to broker a package that was duty free (amateur radio equipment) Does anyone know if the USPS does the same thing with standard mail or is it just express post?

New book - Kettle Valley Railroad

I had an opportunity to walk on part of this piece of history this spring. Near Kelowna a group has turned 12 km into walking trails. It is the Myra Canyon region and they have restored some of the old wooden bridges and cleaned up the old rail bed. A bonus are the two tunnels that are part...
