    DNs USS Oregon?

She's looking good so far, Glen. :) What's that you're using for the portholes ? Looks like some sort of brass eyelets. What did you use to drill out the portholes ?

Not yet, A.J. I promise to start a construction thread, but it's a little early. I'll finish the box formers tomorrow and probably all of the bulkhead hull formers by the weekend. I'll take a shot at the end of each stage, but it's probably not worth starting the thread until I get into the...

Bravo, Scorpio ! It turned out superbly ! Sailors too, if that doesn't beat all ! :)

That explains the language mystery. :) I'm having a hard time visualizing the Lion hull construction. If I re-read it a few more times, I'm sure it might sink in. BTW, I started the Viribus Unitis this past weekend, and it's the usual JSC central box/side bulkhead internal hull...

    DNs USS Oregon?

No, no, you're right, Glen. I just reviewed the plans and I see exactly what you mean. Ron's advice is good, you should e-mail Roman about it. I used toothpicks for the same sort of battery on the Wien, but you at least need to know the dimensions of those 6" guns.

Sorry, Ajax. I apologize for not crediting you with being able to tell German from Polish.  Very strange why Polish kits would come with German instructions though. I'm starting to question my sanity here. Let me check the Veribus Unitis..."Wydawntictwo JSC, Gdansk...

JSC is a Polish company. Both of my JSC models have come with instructions in Polish, but with an English instructions supplement included. Perhaps I just lucked out.

    DNs USS Oregon?

I have the ship too, guys. The white/buff paper edition. It's going to be some time before I ever build it though. I look forward to seeing the construction thread. Sticky Fingers, the photo thing is pretty easy. Just browse your folders for the picture file in the Filename section where...

    Potemkin reference material

WOW ! That's great, Darwin. Very nice find. :) Strange coincidence, I just got this book, Russian and Soviet Battleships. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1557504814/qid=1086989660/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/002-9762754-6776826?v=glance&s=books It's on sale now at...

Thanks, Renaud. I couldn't view the individual pictures, but I was able to view the ship in the body of the thread. Jim, you're right ! The green doesn't look bad at all. Distinctive, even. :) Veribus Unitis it is then, plus we know some of JSC's tricks already. Can...

Thanks, Ajax. :) Now for the next ship, any suggestions ? I have: Digital Navy Oregon Modelik Petrapavlovsk JSC Veribus Unitis HMV Victoria Luisa Wilhelmshaven Seydlitz Here is my thought process so far. The Seydlitz is tempting me, but the German-only instructions are poor...

    Battleship Bismarck

Looking stellar. Scorpio ! What do you plan for rigging materials ? Also, the UV protection ? Never thought about it, but you're right ! What a waste it would be to build something so magnificent, only to have the sun gradually bleach it out.

Thanks, Bill and Ajax. :) Hehe, once I got into the mood with the rigging, I just kept going on it. The wire actually looks better than in these photos, shrinking them to 45kb with MS Photo Editor seems to degrade the resolution. I used micro drill bits with a pin vise to make the holes...

Hey, thanks a lot, guys ! :D Today is a really good day, not just because of finishing the model, but for seeing all your kind words about it. :)

And a parting shot of the rear mast. Very simple rigging indeed. I worked from a combination of the plans (which showed nothing there at all), the cover art and a photo book I have of the Austro-Hungarian navy. She was a fun build.

Amidships. Only one funnel on this ship made the build a little easier.

I went to a train shop, picked up .006 and .008 brass wire from Detail Associates, and this did the trick. All I did was drill minute holes in the deck, inserted the wire, and glued it to the masts. One other thing about this wire, it worked great for removing the completed ship from the...
