Thunderchild - HMS Majestic or Polyphemus

I remember seeing a very simple paper model of a pre-dreadnought, but can't recall at the moment who makes it or where I saw it. IIRC, it was the Wien, but rather generic and toy-like in appearance, so it might be okay for a conversion job. Do it up in Victorian livery, stick a Union Jack on...

    Modelik 1/200 Czarist Battlehsip Petropavlovsk

That's my feeling about it as well. I've always preferred waterline ship models, in any medium. Thanks for the feedback about Modelik, Rob. Yes, let's hope the USS Leutze was not representative of the company's offerings in general.

    Modelik 1/200 Czarist Battlehsip Petropavlovsk

I've had this kit on the back burner for quite some time waiting for the card modeling muse to return. After a lot of time away from the hobby (except for a couple of simple armor builds), I am feeling the urge to tackle another project. The ship is a pre-dreadnought, a robust 1/200 in scale...

    Digital Navy's BB-3 Oregon, 1:250

She is looking good, Michael ! What a nice, clean build. 8) 8) I'm glad to hear the desk lamp incident was not serious.

    Schreiber Steamship Sirius

@ Scorpio, First of all, thanks for making the cool avatar ! :D I made the railings from brass wire. The steps themselves are lead castings which I ordered here: http://www.bluejacketinc.com/ Thanks for the kind words, Scorpio. It means a lot to hear something like that that...

Fly Model Nr 130 , HMS. RODNEY

Absolutely marvellous, Scorpio. :) When it comes to clean, precision building, you're in a class by yourself (and not half-bad with a camera either  ). It's just amazing. Keep the photos coming !

A New Frigate From The 1760´s Is Born

I use toothpicks too, and wood dowels here and there for card modeling. It can be rationalized this way: paper is just a wood by-product. The ship looks great, Askold ! One request, is it possible for your camera to zoom in for some closer photos ? I'd love to see finer details...

    HMS Savage build

A New Frigate From The 1760´s Is Born

And as the ladders appear mounted to the ship.

    Schreiber Steamship Sirius

Now for the ladders which are mounted to the fore deck. I have placed the paper ladders and railings provided in the kit next to the lead ladders. The railings I made out of brass wire.

    Schreiber Steamship Sirius

And as completed. Part #53 wraps around in the middle, with saw-tooth tabs, and then strips # 52 and 54 are glued to it above and below. As you can see, formers are minimal in this part of the ship, so I doubled up #53 to give it more strength to hold its rounded shape as I glued to the other...

    USS MISSOURI (BB-63)

At 1:200, that will be a most impressive model, Rob. I look forward to the build. :)

    HMS Savage build

That's a fine duo of German ships, Barry ! :) I hear you on the subject of tapered gun barrels. I used the tapered part of toothpicks for the 5.9" battery on the Wien and it came out okay. But then you would have made a multimedia model (though we might say that paper is just a wood...
