    New Portal and tree planting

Gee thanks guys, I savour your comments with gratitude and inspiration. The trees are made from the old flower/fruit heads of the Hardhack plant. These plants shed their leaves in October leaving the great looking tree like heads. Hardhack website This page shows what the plant looks like...

    Dollar Store Trailer Upgrades

Hello Fred, You're getting way too much fun out of your dollar....haha. A couple of brass contacts under the trailer (thumb tacks) and a couple of brass wipers in a handy model loading dock, gas station or truck stop could make for easier charging, especially if you start building a fleet.

    Reverse loop

Woops almost forgot. If you have more than one reversing loop or wye you will need to add a cab relay for every one of them. Just stack them in series. You cannot simply add to the actuating wires of the existing cab relay as this will cause all of the relays to fire...BAD.

    Reverse loop

Hello jmarksbery, The cab relay is just another reversing switch so it doesn't matter if you get the wires backwards. If the train is going the wrong way just throw your cab reverse. The loop relay wiring is important, so test it as you go. Power and throw the turnout points which will...

Post a Childhood Pic of Yourself Here!

So I tore down my picture from the other thread and am rehanging myself here. '56 or '57 I can't remember. That's a Hornby Dublo 3 rail model of "Mallard" the famed A4 Gresley Pacific. The railbus is an airfix kit I had bought a clockwork timer that screwed into the release button on my Agfa...

Hello Fred, You answered your own question. Add a resistor.

    Reverse loop

Hello Cmn, If you can't handle Mike's idea of stopping your train in the loop to throw your reversing switch and just have to highball through the loop there is an analog solution if your loop turnout points have a motor. Get 2 Atlas snap relays and wire them in parallel with the turnout...

    New Portal and tree planting

I made a couple of portals over the weekend from bamboo skewers because I needed something anything. A little more paint and they could be keepers; I also made some ground foam, spread it around and did a little more tree planting; Luckily Shaywen showed up with her camera and...

Discrimination at Superbowl, or Money Makes You Above The LAW?

Hello Proudly Moderating Mikey, I read your post with interest as I do feel your pain. Sure I'll jump in here and add my praise for a job well done and for all the Gauge moderators. I was the owner/sysop of a BBS for 14 years and have nowhere near the tolerance you guys have shown. As you...

February 04 Photo Contest - Archive

Sure I'll have a go. This is British Rail Southern Region number 34055 named 'Fighter Pilot'. A Bulleid Pacific Battle of Britain class at Bournemouth Station. I took this sometime in the late '50's. These loco's are also known ungraciously as 'Spam Cans', a term I would never use.

    TV/Railroad Accuracy

Hello Nscale4, This fountain of virtual prototype information is invaluable to those H0 modellers who like to do everything wrong correctly. I have now discovered that I have a totally valid and realistic model railway that is as believable as the ideas of the big boys in Hollywood with their...

    Reversing Section Circuit

Hello fifer, The simplest method I know of is to just add a snap switch in parallel with your turnout switch motor. The track power goes to the 2 inputs and the 2 outputs pairs are crossed (reversing) and continue on to the isolated loop track. This solution requires you to stop the train and...

    Automated layout..

Hello Fred, Thanks for the link, looks like they have some fun stuff. Of course once you have a computer in the system the solutions become far more elegant. My suggestion of locomotive tripping switch and relay is an under $10 fix for this problem but it would not be particularly attractive in...

    Automated layout..

Hello Csxengineer, Dave mentioned wipers which is the right idea for doing this cheaply. There are a few electronic solutions but I can't think of any cheaper than simple analog switches and snap relays. The isolated track would be killed by a wiper hitting a momentary switch between the tracks...

    Things I've learned...

Hey Dash, I think this thread IS about mispronouncing and YES there is a standard. If I am in my LHS ordering a Mallet and he hands me a hammer I can explain and get corrected and we can all chuckle in amusement. If I'd pronounced it correctly I would have a locomotive and wouldn't feel stupid...

    undecorated climax

Hello UPJ, I acqured a couple of the Climax kits from Ebay and paid less for both than you did for your one. However by the time I had them together I would not part with either as cheaply as yours. After both have been painted These little beauties growl and howl and waddle like ducks. I...
