It is a Bachmann Plus Northern 4-8-4 Item # 31320 It measures exactly 17 4/16" from the front cow catcher to the rear coupling. The Real thing is 120' 10" which in true 1/87 scale is 16.6" recurring, so I suppose Bachmann goofed a bit with the size. It was an impulse purchase, what can I say :D

I had a look at the website that JAyers mentioned and have had a little inspiration. I have made another track plan http://www.budgetwebsiteservices.co.uk/home/railway however, It doesn't have a turntable  , and I don't know if there will be enough room for the industries either? It's an...

    Reading line- modern

The easiest way I have found for any hinged sections is to place cheese head screws directly below each rail just before the break & solder each rail to the top of the screw head. It dosen't much matter if the joint is then on a strait or a curve as it dosen't move.

    N Gauge - US/Can vs UK

It's always worth keeping an eye out on eBay. I pick up quite a lot of my rolling stock from there, the other good thing about buying second hand is that sometimes you will come across a model that has already been weathered.

The rock work is very impressive. Is there any particular reason you used a ply riser on one side of the bridge and a polystyrene riser on the other? Just curious..?

    Easy and quick question

All of the above advice is presuming that your using an electro magnetic point motor. If you are using something similar to a Tortoise which is a slow, permanant live stall motor then you want the ON|ON switch. I apologise for my original post, I didn't get the second switches LOL we call them...

Because the loco is 18" long and the only turntable I have managed to find that is big enough to accommodate it is a 22" one. As far as super detailing goes, you will always loose out the smaller you go in scale. The smaller the scale the less you can see. When I say that, I'm talking about...

    with or without dock?

With. I'm presuming there's also loading doors on the track side as well. If you go without a dock you'll have to move the building back in order that the forklift can have enough room to move the goods between the building and the rail cars. However that said, if you go without, it would give...

Indeed, you can do alot more with N in a small space than you can HO, but I love super detailing which is a bit hard in anything smaller than HO.

Hi guys, I have noticed that most of you are across the pond, and I know that you normally do things on a grander scale than we do in the UK, but I'm hoping that you might be able to help. A bit of background: I am trying to design a railroad for my 12 year old son & myself. I used to model...
