    Canvas over loads

If you use tissue/plain toilet paper, then spray it with water from a plant mister, the tissue goes hard after it has dried & you can paint it. :)

    Question about 4% grade

Guys, I know this is an old thread, but rather than start a new one, I did a forum search for gradient & this was the newest LOL. This is the first time I've ever worked with gradients, and I've been doing a lot of head scratching. So for my own peace of mind I just wanted to know if I am...

    New On30 layout. Ideas please...

I didn't know whether this should go here or in logging, but Ho Hum...:D I'm starting a new On30 layout as well as my new HO layout. I saw a photo on here of a great little layout, but I can't find the post, so credit goes to whoever put the picture of the 'Gumshoe' up. It's a 6' x 1'...

    an ebay "go figure" (rant)

Nacho, I know what you mean. It's totally psychological, people think that because it's on e-Bay IT MUST BE A BARGAIN!!!!. I have personally seen lots of things, mostly models & tools that have sold for much more than they would cost if you went to the local stores & bought them brand new...

Pondering about how to lay the track

If your worried about strength, just glue a thin piece (3mm) of ply at the bottom.

    Returning to the hobby.

I certainly will George, on both Coyote Plains, my HO & Yo-Yo my new On30 layout. I have really got hooked on this forum and have got some great ideas from it's members. I love the way the members do the stage by stage photos, it's really good to see something come together from just an idea, no...

    Repainting passengers

I don't know if this will apply to these particular coaches, but I know a lot of my continental coaches used to come apart, just pull on the chassis gently. If you can separate the chassis from the body, you should find that the windows are in one clear plastic moulding, like a 4 sided box. They...

    There once was a layout....

If you didn't want to many buildings in the center, you could always put a switchback in opening up in to a larger multitrack yard.

    New house new layout plan

Bulldog, you can always use the flex track on RTS. A little trick I've found is to insert the flex track, then go to Form Flex track (the button below), set both point A & point B to zero, then hit the optimize button. It usually comes out OK, sometimes you have to tweak it slightly.

Thanks George. I know what you mean about the 22" turntable, I did think about putting it in the cupboard, but then it wouldn't be seen unless you right in that area. I think I'm going to go with how it is, unless anyone else can come up with anything better for me? You know the old modeling...

what type of layout do you prefer

It is definitely a 'what room is available' thing. I would personally have a layout as large as I could, but at all times, keeping the tracks within arms length. It's OK having a base board 5' deep up against a wall, but if you can't reach the track for cleaning, stuck loco, derailment etc...

What to use to fill holes in hardcore door?

Use a matchstick or wooden tooth pick or something similar with a slight dab of wood glue to hold the wire in place. If you ever need to take the wire out, the wood glue will be quite easy to pick off.
