    Lighting Question

I have a technical question about lighting. I'm using some 3mm LEDs to light a structure. Right now, I'm mostly concerned with getting this building lit, but eventually it will need to work on the layout. I should mention that this is the first structure I'm lighting. I using the AC output of...

    Smokestacks

Can anyone give me any suggestions for constructing smoke stacks like the ones seens in the 2nd photo on this page? http://www.oldchesterpa.com/peco.html I'm building these in N scale. In person, the pipes appear to be ribbed (welded) in 10 or 12 foot sections.

What did you use for window glazing on these buildings?

    Walther's Powerplant

WOW....magnets! Great idea. A photo of the roof probably wouldn't help. It would be very difficult to photograph and actually show anything. Essentially, it's an A-frame roof line that does not overhang the walls. The walls actually continue up a bit, creating a false front on the...

    Walther's Powerplant

I'm building the Walther's Northern Light and Power structure in N scale and scratch-building a complete interior since all of the windows are so large. (Walthers has an HO interior, but not N) I have one problem with it and need some advice. I have a floor in it, which prevents access...

    Building Bachmann's Ambassador Hotel

I'm crushed, Val. As a smoker myself, I find that working on the MRR is the only time I don't smoke! But then again, the wife won't let me smoke in the house. So the MRR wins. But....I guess I'll suffer through the summer.... but damn if I'm not looking to seeing the beauty finished...

Please help a new guy decide scale

Here's why I decided to go with N and not HO. For me, the trains are only a minor part of the layout -- they add a level of animated realism to a miniature world. I think trains look much better when running in a large "slice" of scenery. It's really the scenery and level of detail...

    Building Bachmann's Ambassador Hotel

Val, just a thought....I don't know what's over the font doors there, but this hotel has a similar feel/shape to NY's old Biltmore Hotel. Same U shape....just on a much larger scale. Over the doors (inside the U shape), the Builtmore had an outdoor garden/courtyard with a fountain in the...

    Building Bachmann's Ambassador Hotel

More, more! We need to see more progress Val. The interior looks INCREDIBLE. Can't wait for some more shots. PS....those front doors are screaming for some door mats with the hotels logo on them. :)

    DPM Kit

Actually....the bottle came with the kit....it's white metal. As did the name -- it's a dry transfer and I thought it was easier to use that then try to do some other lettering on the awning. The only items not part of the kit are the Climax Tobacco sign on the side, the roof details...

    DPM Kit

I actually used to do ship models at 1:350, so N-scale is huge! Anyway....as far as how it went together..... I've done 2 DPMs, 1 Walthers and 1 Model Power. Walthers is by far the best, in my opinion. The DPMs are nice as far as architecture, but the 4-walls, everything-molded in place...

    DPM Kit

Posting this again...sorry if it shows up twice...computer issues. Anyway.....this is the "Bottums Up Bar and Grill" -- one of the three structures in DPM's N-scale kit "Nightlife". Still need to add neon window signs, viewblocks and lighting. This is my 4th structure.

    wreck train

You're not kidding that it looks like the real thing. The crane is great, but the real show-stopper there is the scenery. Ground texture and background and dead-on.
