    rail pick up wires

Thanks Jim for clearing that part up for me, allow me to expand my question regarding the rail pick up wires. On the Athearn loco each truck picks up current from the left and right rail and then has a single "tab" for the metal strip from the motor to make contact with. As the decoder has...

    rail pick up wires

Today I measured stall amps in all my locos and determined which, if any, had insulated motors. I noticed that using a continuity meter, if I placed one probe on a motor terminal and the other on any wheel then there would be continuity, so how do you determine which is right side and which is...

Decoders in cheap locos - worthwhile?

Allen, my son is 10, and has had a crack at some soldering, this might be something for him to tackle, so far it has just been basic stuff.

Decoders in cheap locos - worthwhile?

Just an additional thought, the only issue I see is adding a $20 decoder to a $10 locomotive, but if he enjoys them then why not?

Decoders in cheap locos - worthwhile?

I am just getting started in DCC, my Prodigy should be here soon, while I will be adding decoders to the Athearn, Hornby, and LL2K locos, my son has several Model Power locos, is it worthwhile adding decoders to these cheaper locos or just run them in DC mode? He does enjoy them and the're don't...

VERY excited! Found MY train ;)

I think the Chattanooga Choo Choo is a great looking locomotive, I turned mine into a dummy loco. I believe IHC make a 2-8-0 that is the made from the old Tyco tooling and therefore is identical.

Hi guys, thought I would say hello. Good to see so many names I recognize from the Atlas forum, I think that if we become established on this forum why do we need Atlas. Good to see so many of you guys here, I notice though that Smudgeloco hasn't showed up, sure he will.

What Atlas said about their forum at the Seattle Show

When the Atlas forum is up and running I will check it out for sure, I learned a tremendous amount about all sorts of topics, alot of which I am incorporating into my new layout. The wealth of knowledge was amazing, and the quick response to questions was great. I ignored all the flame wars and...

I'm new, formerly from the Atlas forum

Hi everyone, I see some familiar names on this forum so I thought I would give it a try. I had went on vacation and when I came home I seen that Atlas was shut down. I stumbled onto the railroad forum but found it very slow, so now I am here and I thought I would give it a try. Glad to be here...
