    Atlas Switch problems

Just an update....... I tried the loco by its self and it don't even attempt to make the turn. So I tried an old loco I have laying around and it works fine. So I checked the wheels on the brand new loco and sure enough the back to back is to narrow. Maybe thats why they were on sale. Do I have...

    Atlas Switch problems

steamhead, I thought all couples were truck mounted, even katee and micro trains? Derailments happen mainly on the deverging rail. Couplers are just standard rapula couples. Thes are probably just beginner cars. Denyons, no I said the cars derail but not all of them. But the loco does also...

    Atlas Switch problems

Code 80 Track I wanted to specify this is code 80 track. I back the train very slow and it does not derail. In watching closely as it is backing up, It seems I see 2 problems. I do not see any obstructions from keeping the points closed. But something seems to be happining that I see the car...

    Atlas Switch problems

I know I have seen a thread or 2 about these but I got to ask now. I put my track down and it is glued in place. This switch works fine when the train is going forward. But as soon as I try to reverse, derailment after derailment. Whats going on??? Do I need to file something? Any suggestions...

    N scale radius question

The radius of a curve is figured to the center of the track. And if you are going to lay down roadbed you have to add that. So an 11'' radius would be max for a 2' board. If you can make your board larger but maybe not much larger, what you could do is use flex track and make your own radius you...

    tips & tricks

I was reading a thread in the tips and tricks section of this forum. Kinda like a thread that talked about everyday house hold products and things people throw away that can be used on there layout. It seemed to me most of the people responding were in the HO and larger gauges. Has anyone ever...

How long do you run your Loco's ?

A simple question, How long do you run your loco's ? Time wise that is. Do you give them a rest now and then or do you run them for hours and hours? Can running them to long burn them up?

To those with lots of track...

Chartiers, How does masonite help keep the track clean? I have heard other people say the same thing. Isn't masonite just compressed cardboard? Hey CSX, I don't know if it was a good idea or not but, what I did was put a re-railer after every corner and after every switch. This is on my latest...

    Loco question

Hey Jeff, I just bought one. I was really wondering if I should because they were on sale for $39.95 reg. $89.95. I got the Reading though. They all were on sale. That always make me wonder if there's something wrong with them. Quess I'll find out. I decided to take my 4-6-2 out of it's box and...

    Loco question

Maybe I should have ask the question different. But thanks for the info so far. Maybe I should have ask, what kind of loco do you use and how many cars do you pull? Do you have all flat track or hills? The loco I was talking about has both trucks powered. I had another loco I tried that I got...

    Mounting roadbed & track

I used the hot glue gun to attach the track to the roadbed. I used liquid nail to lay the roadbed. The hot glue dries very fast and you have to be precise the first time. I haven't tried that hair blower trick yet. That will be nice if it works. Thanks for the tip Nomad.

    Loco question

I have a ( looks very used) Arnold Repido 4 wheel trucks loco. Looks like the company went out of business a long time ago. Or maybe split up? Pulling 12 cars with it seems to act like it might be putting a strain on it. And this is flat track, no hills yet. Do you think its just getting old and...

    Feeder Lines

Cool, I think I just found my problem. I was making a test run after some wiring. My multitester said I was getting good current. But, my loco didn't want to start after reversing and try to go forward again. I think the wheels are gunked up. I'll clean them and then see what happens.

    Feeder Lines

Started hooking up the wire. Found out the 14 guage wire was stranded wire not solid wire. Will there be a difference using it?

    OBS rides again

Hey Dave, I concider myself central fl. on the west coast. There seems to be a lot I have been seeing at the LHS. There's a nice sized club that I know of also. I haven't been there yet. Also when the snow birds come back it gets real busy at the LHS's. Any way god luck on your project.

    Nmra Rp-11

Looking at the recommended practices from the NMRA. It says with a 17.375" radius and #6 turnouts I should be able to run Steam Locos to 24' ridged wheel-base. What exactly is "Ridged Wheel-Base"?

    New layout in the works.

Shawn, Very nice so far. Keep up the good work. Like I said, I'm very interested on how this turns out. I really like it so far. Thanks for the video also. Woodone I'm confused, why would the radius of the track change the grade? A 2% grade is a 2% grade, it shouldn't matter what the...

    19" radius sectional tracks

Three (3) fairly LHS and no one had a NMRA Standards Gauge. So I called another HS and they had 3. It was a 45 minute drive but well worth it. The guy has a nice selection of stuff. I ended up spending more than just $12 on the gauge. Well I got home and started checking things. On one car, the...
