DCC: trains running in opposite directions

It's a blessing and a curse. Once properly programed, trains will run in the direction selected from the controller thus allowing opposite direction travel and "cornfield meets"

    a few questions about homabed

Try http://www.homasote.com/home.html to locate a dealer. You might call ahead before going - some are dealers but don't always have it in stock. Also prices vary. I drove 90mi one way to by mine because it was $10/ sheet cheaper (I was buying 10 sheets).

    Model Railyard Operations

There's a Yahoo group <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarCards/?yguid=101696068> dedicated to the use of cards and includes downloadable software to create them.

Two "High-water" Victorians from a "Painted Lady" (image heavy)

What did you use for the 2 story house on the "other side of the block" pic 15?

Any Broadway Limited Gurus out there?

I've bought what will probably be my only BLI locomotive. They seem to aim to the RTR and unknowing crowd. I bought an E-7 which has single chime horns on it and the only horn sound is a multi-chime. I wrote them and they gave me all sorts of double talk - they just don't get it. The bell is...

    track planning sites

How big or small are you talking about? http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ldsig/?yguid=101696068 is an excellent resource. I think there's also a small layouts group on Yahoo and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/3rdPlanIt/?yguid=101696068 is a group supporting a commercial program but you can...

    Cross (super) Elevation

Of course, it's not really necessary on model layouts other than for cosmetic looks. That being said, no need to do it in hidden or areas not viewable. But where it will be noticed, the effect is stunning. I've heard a suggestion that line from a "weed wacker" under the outer rail works well but...

    Trucks for Rivarossi Passenger Cars

E Mo Ry: Didn't realize you were a MP modeler. I've been one for years modeling with a friend when I was in California and now building my own layout here in Florida.

    Trucks for Rivarossi Passenger Cars

The's lots of guys who use them for kitbashing into other cars often using a whole body just for window panels so keep looking. You might want to try asking on the Yahoo Passenger Car list (you have to join to post). http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PassengerCarList/?yguid=101696068

    Model Railyard Operations

One of the favorite jobs on my friend's layout is the TSR (Traveling Switch Engine) job that serves two towns. It does all the spotting and switching for them as the mainline trains just drop "cuts" of cars. It's not unusual for an operator to get so involved, you never hear from him until...

    Suggestions for Switcher

The 0-6-0 would really be the engine of choice for most prototype roads (assuming steam). You could still fit into steam era with a Baldwin switcher (Stewart makes various models). I have an old Hallmark VO-1000 I repowered with an Overland switcher chassis (fair amount of machining and...

Help with wiring up a yard

I'm using DCC controlled turnouts for my lower level which will be hidden so I can set the routes with macros. The upper visible level will have conventional toggle switches. But I don't have any real yards per se. If I did, I think I would use DCC for them because of the macro capability.

Here is sort of a birds eye view of my layout...

Good job both on the layout and photo editing. Have you run trains yet? I just finished what will be the lower loops for my layout and have been running loop -to - loop for the fun and testing. Even dug out my homemade track cleaners I machined and drug them around. Here I'm just using scraps...

Help! Seeking opinion on Brass Loco

I can't believe I didn't read the post on e-bay better: it states it DOES have a can motor. Should make a good runner. Good luck.

What have you achieved so far in 2004

My progress has gone in spurts but the most activity has been of late. In the last two months I got the roadbed and track in on 300' of track that will become my lower level. I have it pretty much wired for DCC so I can showcase it for holiday visitors.

Help! Seeking opinion on Brass Loco

Katsumi was a good builder when most of the brass came from Japan. They tended to be a little "heavy handed" detail wise but were virtual tanks - good runners and stood up to heavy usage. IMHO a good "runner" not necessarily display model. Hard to say about colors but the model looks a little...

    Tried DCC Accessory Routing but....

Don't forget, it only fires the turnouts needed for the selected route: if any are already lined up, they will not be effected. When setting up the route pay careful attention to which direction is "normal" and "reversed" so you enter the correct direction in the command.
