    DCC Wiring Confused

You do have a reverse loop on the right side - I can't tell if there's a turnout in the middle at the top or what. I would first locate and attend to the reversing loops using an automatic reverse loop controler then decide on how many and where you want the power districts. It will depend...

    HO windows for scratchbuilding

Save those mullions you take out in modifying the windows! I just got done using some I scavanged from a Grandt Line window to add to a lazer kit's windows and door to change the appearence. Takes careful cutting but doeable.

    Gondola scrap load article

Don't you just hate it when that happens? :( Reminds me of the time I used too much glue in glueing a load of coal in a freshly painted engine (well - the tender actually). Seems (no pun intended) there were enough gaps to let it flow all over the workbench

    Making Ice

Got in late on this thread but the sandblasted plexiglass idea sounds great. I've "frosted" a few windows for O-scale passenger cars when I used to paint, and the effect is very good. Spread around a light dusting of your favorite for snow (I use baking soda), bring out the skaters, and I think...

Need some pics or site link

Thanks for the link to the LOC collections. I just suffered a computer crash and am setting up everything fresh on a new computer. I had the site on the old 'puter - it is a wonderful resource.

How do start an operating night?

For that size and type operation, you might want to manually produce some paperwork to give the session an air of reality. Probably a switchlist or some such form. I think tacks or car cards would be too simplified at this point.

    How to airbrush brass?

IMHO you must fully disassemble a steam engine to properly. On of the biggest enemys of good paint adhesion is dirt or oil. You can only properly clean it if fully disassembled. You only need to mark drivers that may be in question. The geared one is no problem as is any with heavier counter...

    DPDT switch question

Ppomperaugrr's setup is simple cab control. You set the swich to the same cab as it progresses around the layout flipping it off as you leave the block. It is this last task (or forgetting to do so  ) that is good justifcation for DCC :thumb:

    NCE DCC wireless any thoughts?

I don't think that's true. When programing on the main, you program individual CVs. I have done so on both Soundtrax (combo sound/decoder) equipped units and a BLI E-unit.

    ZTC Controls Computer Interface

Well if they don't want to answer e-mail from a prospective buyer, I'd question whether I'd buy their product. Something like this needs support - something they seem unwilling to provide.

    DPDT switch question

How would you run continuously from 1 block to another with this wiring scheme? Pomperaugrr's recommendation makes the most sense.

    Playing with trains

I haven't read the book but agree on your disagreement (huh  ) When I lived in California, I visited an L&N layout in the Santa Barbara area whose design and scenery was fantistic. We met thru the Ops Sig group and he holds regular serious OpSessions. :thumb:

    Florida clubs

Private layout - central Florida  I'm looking for someone interested in joining me in working on my layout. I'm located in The Villages Fl (Lady Lake). See details on the layout on the link w/ my signature. I would consider a "round robin" type arrangement. :thumb:

Looking for an unusual layout industry?

Happy New Year Tom and all. An industry that always intreagued me was an RV manufacturer. Receives "cab and chassis" trucks and vans to convert. I used to quite often see blocks of auto racks loaded with such a cargo headed for where I did not know.

DCC or DC to power trains

Lots of people use the excuse they have too many engines to convert. I just figure on doing a few at a time. Actually one day I think I did 5 - IT'S REALLY NOT THAT HARD! If you have 100+ engines, you're a collector anyway and it doesn't matter what you power them with because you probably won't...

DCC or DC to power trains

I suspect they will upgrade units purchased after a certain date for free and nonimal charge for other. I know that is what NCE is doing with their new EPROM.

    NCE DCC wireless any thoughts?

The nice thing about NCE wireless is that it is actually both wireless and teathered and converts automatically to the latter when you plug it in. As far as layout size and range, it varies with conditions but I understand the new EPROM is going to allow them to develop a repeater for situations...

    Signs painted on walls

Another method I use for painted on signs (esp for brick buildings) is to actually paint them on! I use CorelDraw to make the artwork and have a mask cut from vinyl from it. You may have to look for someone with a vinyl cutter - try sign shops, golf cart or "Skido" dealers etc. Check what...

Rolling stock storage - what do you do?

I think it's like the old expression "The way to make a million is to start with 2 (million)".
