mike... my ac4400 are not yet here either.

folks the bad news : there's no actual digitrax decoder which fits the ac4400 without doing the same modifications to the shell as on the c44. the good news : digitrax is working on a new decoder to fit the ac4400 without modifications ! just give these guys a few weeks.

folks currently i have about 30 atlas gp38. all were bought brand new. 25 of them sound like a coffee grinder while the remaining 5 run almost as silent as a kato. i had some of them checked at atlas but no result. still noisy. the shells are nice but the drive is rather lousy. you know...

all my cars have the 1035 (?) trucks. this might not be correct but provides reliable operation

owen the shells look pretty good. just about the same quality as the redbarn kits. the guy from central hobby told me to use an atlas gp38 drive as it comes closes to the original.

mdc roundhouse used to sell their coal cars directly. nice cars for a really good price. unfortunately they no longer sell directly. you might be able to find a batch of these cars in a hobby shop. all you need is mount micro-trains trucks and there good.

best running engines are by kato. unfortunately their shells are not as good as the newer atlas locos. keep your hands of from life like, model power and all that cheap stuff. this is only my opinion.

i have a couple of these units as well. all the frames had been milled by aztec. they also include a installation instruction. easy task to add a decoder. www.aztectrains.com/pages/dccframes.html

might be a silly question. why do you want to replace the couplers on e8 and passenger cars ? i assume they run together most of the time. if you have problems with these couplers uncoupling then call kato. they had replacement couplers for free. seemed to be a production problem. anyway, i...
