Switching to N scale any tips

back to topic.... it might sound harsh but it's out of my experience. if you don't have the money to get the very best products then better stay off n scale. it might be a very annoying experience otherwise. been there done that. for locos there's nothing better than kato. second place...

    What do you think

looks like you used a brush to do the weathering. i'm sorry but on the left side the rusty streaks look a bit too heavy/thick. you might try to use chalk or powder instead. imho this gives finer streaks... but of course this is only my opinion. btw, nice weathering on the car. especially...

    Atlas low profile metal wheels

sean... i was able to get a few of these atlas axels. so far around 50 cars have mt trucks with atlas axles. they sound great, run well. unfortunately they tend to derail at turnouts. also running long trains on tight curves causes way more derailments than with the original mt axles (not...

    Getting started!

    Painting locos, cars, and scratchbuilt

so far i used scalecoat and scalecoat 2. mostly i use some thinner by just pouring some into the paint. i don't care if it's 1:2 or 1:4 or somewhere in between. like ray said, disassemble the model and wash it with water and soap. but don't use the kind of soap which has some lotion in it as...

    Wiring for DCC

as far as i see there are no reverse loops. wiring for dcc could be done by two wires only. however, i'd strongly recommend to use feeder wires every two feet or so. most problems with dcc are because of not enough feeders.

    The most you pulled?

brakie a few months back there was a discussion on the atlas forum on how to hide a drive in a boxcar. might be this trix unit was not alone. so far i don't know a n scale engine pulling 70. not even my brass big boy has this power.

Atlas Code 55 and Peco Code 55

i used peco code55 on my layout. tough and reliable track. no problems so far with any diesel loco going over switches. some steam locos might have tracking promblems on tight switches.

    Kato AC4400's

just got the first 4 of my ac4400 (didn't know i had some on order at pwrs). so there are still 50 to come... well, what can i say ? my custom painted c44 definitely look better. i assume kato once more screwed the paint job by using the wrong red. cp rail ac4400 have lots of warning stickers...
