    ho "climax style sideframes"

I too have the same problem. I am trying to make a vertical boiler class A standard gauge HO climax but like Sean says - I don't really want to build a set of 4 side frames. I was thinking about making a strip plastic master and cast copies in RTV or something however I don't have the raw...

I'm new to trains....alot of DCC questions

All NMRA decoders are cross compatible. That is to say a Lenz decoder will work with a Digitrax command station. They can all talk to one and other:D Buy track with Nickel-Silver rail. It requires less cleaning and conducts better so there is less chance of the DCC signal getting...

Cleaning up (in more ways than one)

You might also want to get a bottle of spray electrical contact cleaner for the commutators in the motors of the locos as they will probably have tarnished if they haven't been run in a while.

    HOn3 curve radius

The shay can definately go round 18" radius curves but tighter than that and the telescopic drive shafts on the right side might come out too far and fall appart or not be able to close up enough on the inside of the bend and jam. So.....18" is fine (I've tried it) but it all gets very tight...

Gas stations in Colorado in 1925

Hi chris, It would be quite convenient if Philips 66 was an appropriate company as those are the dry transfers that Woodland Scenics give with the pumps. On the other hand - i might go out on a limb and make up signs for one of the other companies. I don't want to have the same brand of...

Gas stations in Colorado in 1925

I love the photo Ron. Seeeing as I haven't built the building yet this would be a great prototype. Cheers. Great logos Val. Whatt period are they from? Varied I assume but companies change their logos regularly which adds to the confusion somewhat. Just to warn you - the link to the...

Any one got a gas station on there L/O??

Unfortunately the trams are gone from glasgow now     all we have are buses. The buses that Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT) ran were bright, bright  orange with black bands at window level. The local trains were painted like that too. The trains were blue...

Gas stations in Colorado in 1925

Thanks, this is going to be in a small town and I have a pair of those nice woodland scenics HO scale gravity feed pumps but I didn't think that the Phillips 66 was appropriate for that time and place. I think you are correct about there not being any opperating oil fields in Colorado at...

Gas stations in Colorado in 1925

Hi folks, Does anyone know what companies sold gas in Colorado in the 1920s'? I'm trying to build a layout there and I have a spot for a small grocers/hardware shop that I want to have a petrol pump outside but I don't know what company would sell the gas. Cheers all. Neil

Any one got a gas station on there L/O??

Hi Chris, I started modelling generic Aemrican models about 10 years ago because at that time the British outline RTR stuff wasn't as good as the athearrn/IHC counterparts. Now there isn't much to choose between the offerings and I am becoming more interested in scratchbuilding locomotives but...

    TV/Railroad Accuracy

Or in "Emporer of the North", already mentioned, there is a bit where the two hobos are on the top of a passenger train that is being pulled by what looks suspiciously like a USRA 0-8-0 dressed up in a fancy paint scheme (on a secondary, if not branch, line!). Honestly - these people:rolleyes:

Any one got a gas station on there L/O??

Hii guys, I like the thread. Petrol stations can really ground your era to the viewer - just like cars. Along this vein - does anyone know what brands of gas were sold in Colorado in the 1920s'? This is probably one for a D&RG nut :D

    Sitting in the CAT/BIRD seat???!!!

ah.. Cats are great. When one of the cats we had when I was wee saw all the foam in the bath it thought the foam would be nice and soft so he jumped into the bath! Because he was a kitten at the time he wasn't strong enough to jump back out because of the weight of the water. Awwww....:D

Just curious, what camera are you using

Hi Tony, I quite like the idea of having the insides of the mountains filled with Discworld style Dwarf mining scenes - You could even have stations in the tunnels and put passenger cars with tinted windows (so the dwarfs don't get dazzled) in your trains! At the front of the layout you...

Just curious, what camera are you using

That set me thinking - do you think we should be designing layouts so that they look good not only to the viewer but also to an engineer of a locomotive (i.e. a liny camera on the front of a train. Would this include modelling the insides of tunnels, or at least baffles so that light doesn't...

    Condor construction (carrion eye candy??)

A really great idea. In a similar vein, I saw a chap at a model railway show on saturday who (in HO) had a model hare pop out of some bushes at the front of his layout. I asked him about it and it is done with a slow motion switch machine on its side. It was really good - as was his layout...

    Minimum radius for long train?

I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem. You might have to put the long, light cars at the rear of the train and the heavier ones at the front of the train - but this is a problem real railroads had and that's what they did too so it is realistic.
