    Modelik Flower class corvette

I have both of these kits and they are fantastic things to look at, but the swarm of tiny parts are the reason I've been back-sliding towards using 'traditional' plastic model techniques, styrene sheet and rod, resin casting etc. I just can't see myself cutting these paper bits out accurately...

WHAT?! Someone actually recovered from my disease?! Sheesh, there is hope for me yet, then.... I'm suffering from complications, however. I thought I had turned from the Dark Side that is plastic, but now I an using plastic card instead of paper. At least I am building something. I had...

Modified Black Swan antisubmarine sloop 1944

Tumblehome. I found this definition on the net, but it appears to contradict itself. Is it just that the hull sides slope inward as they rise from waterline to deck? "Tumblehome: A description of hull shape when viewed in a transverse section, where the widest part of the hull is someway...

Modified Black Swan antisubmarine sloop 1944

Barry, If you spent all your time tidying up your workspace, you wouldn't be well on the way to making a smashing model of one of the Royal Navy's most pugnacious-looking brutes of a ship! Don't you dare clean up, not 'til its finished! Tim P

You must be careful with ship dimensions, they can refer to a number of aspects of the shape involved. Length can, for example, be overall, waterline (sometimes called 'Between Perpendiculars'), and perpendicular to frames, wich might be slightly different if the hull 'sits' in the water pitched...

I've only had that rectangle happen when I have moved the bitmap file from its folder, so when Rhino goes to load up the bitmap to display it, the data is no longer where it expects to find it. I think there is a message printed in the rectangle along the lines of 'Bitmap xyz.jpg is no longer...

Mmm. Never had that happen! Did you move the bitmap file at any time? I mean the file, not its position in the model space? Mystery one, that. Tim P

Further to my PM, if you are trying to trim a surface you already have generated, you MIGHT get problems if you use a curve. This will likely happen if the offset curve is not EXACTLY in the plane of the surface, in otherwords offsetting the outline moves the curve off the surface. If this...

I must admit I am struggling a bit with this concept! But hey, if that is what Yuki wants to do, go for it I say. But I am struggling a bit with this concept................. Tim P PS We need a bigger variety of smilies! Where is the one that suggests, 'Cool, but at the same time...

Split the rails so you do make the surface in two pieces. Then unroll each one seperately. Imagine trying to unroll that whole wing as one piece. It wouldn't work, it has to be split where the change in trailing edge occurs. Rhino has the same limitation, at the moment anyway! Tim P

    De Havilland DH-88 Comet

I've imported the pages into Coreldraw (v11) to do much the same thing, putting all the thick card parts onto two pages, all the red bits onto common pages and so on; rescaled it to 1:32 as well, so it will match the ModelArt aircraft I haven't even started yet... Importing each page from the...

There you go!! All journeys start with a first step. I just get the biggest kick out of seeing new guys making progress like this! Can't wait to see your first model, but before you go charging ahead, try exporting the lines to your colouring software, put some camouflage on it, print it, cut...

No need to rebuild. Click on the button that has a little forest of white arrows, then click on one of your curves. A white arrow will appear at one end. Hit the 'F' key to 'Flip' the direction. Now select the two curves for the loft operation. When you start a loft, these arrows will appear...

Gil, you are right, the Mk 1 eyeball will get you a good answer. You could spend a lot of time calculating these dart cuts, but frankly the accuracy you would need to make them to 'work', as far as Rhino is concerned, would be WAAAAY finer than you could cut with a scalpel, and more to the...
