Yep if the wheels were that dirty that will cause the problems that you described. DCC requires very clean everything wheels and track. I had a hard wired GP-30 that I never could get to run as well as my locos with drop in decoders I blame that on the motor not one of the new slow speedones. I...

With me it usually depends on the price of the loco, if its a good deal with the decoder I'll get it, if it doesn't have a factory decoder I'll install my own.

Well lets see I finished the GVR loco I've been working on, got sme temp track down so I can at least run trains again. Went to s show in St. Charles not alot of layouts on display but found a good deal on some freight cars a box of 12 Roundhouse cars for 2 bucks each a couple of which have...

Today I'm going to finish the GVR loco I'm doing, install # boards and railings. Tomorrow I'm going to a show just a few minutes away in St. Charles and do some general work on the layout.
