Yes you can make it into a sound unit with its own road # and use it in a consist with two or three other powered locos. Or you could also program it with the same road number as another loco and have a powered loco and the sound unit.

Someting you might try, after you delete anything form the recall stack unplug the handheld for a few seconds, just as you unplug it it should read savdr or something to that effect. That will make sure it is deleted and not show back up.
