    Canyon model

Do you alread have a layout? If not (or maybe if you do) why not actually make that module? Get some wood and/or foam, come screen and some hydrocal, and a piece or two of flex track. Would make really good practice, AND, heck if you like what you see, just keep it going around the room. I...

Uh, oh, I can't find either store in Sarnia. There' s a Real Canadian Superstore in Windsor, but is a little tougher to get to.

    Loblaws/PC locos?

Since I live only 45 minutes from Sarnia, ON, in Michigan, does anyone have any suggestions of stores there that might stock these trainsets? I sure wouldn't mind a nice deal on a CN loco or two. John

Don't forget the Hunley. This tank is so cool.

    A bit worn down

I would think that making a casting of the sides and the ends, then UNDER pouring the resin would make this an, easy? model. If you had the cast equipment. Also could be a good use of some beat up train-set cars you always see at garage sales. Get your dremel ready!

    Operational switching layouts

Wonder how you named those industries? :thumb:

OK All you track planning experts, I need some help!

Two books: Tony Koester's "Realistic Model Railroad Operations" John Armstrong's "Track Planning for Realistic Operation" Actually, I think you're ready to go! What are you waiting for? Here's what you need to hear: Your layout looks fine, you can operate the heck out of that I should...

    Help with cutting sheet styrene

I discovered a great plastic cutter last year; it's not cheap, but unlike Micromark tools, highly useful for other jobs: A Ryobi tabletop bandsaw, from Home Depot, for about $109. I have two blades, a 1/4" and a 1/8". The smaller is great for plastic work and you can clamp a fence for...

Modeling different regions or time periods?

When I finally get around to building my GTW Romeo sub, I intend to have 3 and maybe four eras: Pre-war, where I can also run Doodlebugs; transition, with Consols, passenger service and F-Units; and then mid seventies, where I can use GPs in blue and run the Ford Tractor plant with it's small...

    Athearn Bluebox

Given what I know about the way that modern manufacturers have a "customize to order" scheme, I doubt that they mold the car body, and paint it, when you order it. What is almost certainly the case is that ALL of the parts for ALL of their BB's are sitting around in bins, already made, RIGHT NOW...

    Model Railroad Craftsman Magazine

yeah, liquour and tobacco companies neither buy from nor are welcome in MR, RMC, et al. I don't mind. Hey, most of you don't mind plunkin down $300 for a plastic toy train, why the grumpin about some ads in a magazine??? John

    Benchwork complete. FINALLY!

You know, this is what is great about this hobby, there is no one way to do things. ExPC here has shown an interesting twist on the cookie cutter method with the routed edges and I think this is a really neat and inspiring technique. I will have to think on how this can be used further. Good...

    They got me! :)

I have the April 1977 issue and in that they have a huge article on everyone's favorite fallen flag - Undec. Lots of great lineside pics and you wouldn't believe the variety in the prototype! Literally everything you could imagine! 8?) And just tons of models are available. All you Undec...

    Another turntable ???

You may want to check out Ray M's excellent tutorial on his HO scratchbuilt turntable. Very detailed and precise. Just the sort of thing you expect from Ray. John

    DCC and DC

I hope this has cleared up the this "Bachmann = Toys" issue. Why can't people just stick to what they know instead of speculating (incorrectly too, as shown by comments later in this thread) on what they have no experience in? At $80-$100 just for a Consolidation, DCC ready, I find it hard to...

Who sells HO 0r HOn3 K-36 series steam engines

I'm sitting here looking at some 1977 issues of the Model Railroader, with those very locomotives in brass, from Pacific Fast Mail, in the ad on the back cover. PFM doesn't exist anymore, as far as I can tell, but you should be able to find them on eBay or at a dealer in brass. Good luck...

    Returning to the hobby.

For some inspiration, check the pages at Thor's Trains: here: http://www.thortrains.net/poorhox.html and here: http://www.thortrains.net/4holayx.html Remember, you can take a 4'x8' layout, snip one of the endcurves and "unfold" it to be a 8'x8' point to point layout. In fact, you can get...

    Hooked on Couplers

Actually, the Kadee website has a listing of what couplers to use with what cars and locomotives, by model manufacturer. As for your search for Canadian cars, you need to look beyond the Athearn and Accurail websites. There is literally thousands of out of production cars still floating around...
